What's the best way to farm these? I always seem to not have enough stock of them to get the consumables I desire.

I usually kill an easy boss and buy 20 of them from the shop. It restocks every time you kill a boss. As for reliable drop, I don't know. I think spirits drop is sometimes, so you can try farming them.

The shop, it's the only reliable way to get 20 transformation shards in the game. Because the game is surprisingly stingy with them despite them being seemingly common. just go from the crevice to a simple boss or area (Jar enthusiast for example) then go back. Get all the shards you need.
