How do you even fight this guy. I never get him below maybe 10 or 20 percent of his health before I'm out of heals and he kills me. I know some people have no trouble with him but for me, he is impossible. Not looking for tips or get gud advice, just wanted to rant a bit.

I get the rant...

it's the ONLY fight I found frustrating in the whole game.
there's nothing much to know anyway. You just have to learn every pattern and be patient.
it's a fight about endurance.

I can only give you tips from dual-wield perspective so keep that in mind.

In general, Hismar is mechanically easy fight with very few attack patterns, single grab attack and an aerial phase that you can fall asleep at. You can only target his head but you can also hit his front legs for severely reduced damage so just focus on his head.

1. Stay put, wait for him to engage you and brink guard or dodge his attacks, he will often slam his head to the ground at the end of his attack chain. This is the opening window to deal damage
2. I change my dual-wield skill from Howling Blade to Whirlwind that is much better at hitting targets that are above the ground. Every head slam should be at minimum 1 full Whirlwind combo, if you are fast and bring guard or dodge correctly, you can get 2 combos out on each head slam.
3. You want to pay special attention to one of his attacks where he swipes at you but the follow up is a ground slam with two-stage AOE in front of the boss. You either want to brink guard repeatedly back to back or just dodge back to avoid the AOE completely.
4. When he jumps back and tries to use his lightning breath attack, run forward and dodge the attack to the side. If you are fast enough, he will only do 2 attacks and gives you decent opening for dealing damage, otherwise, he will do 3 lightning attacks if you stay at a distance.
5. If you have spare spirit, you can use javelins when he is at a distance, aim for head as they deal decent damage.
6. Once you reduce his HP somewhat, he will start using slam attacks charged with Chaos. If you pay attention, he aims those attacks at either side of his head so dodge to opposite side. This gives you great opening to deal damage as the chaos AOE leaves lingering damage on the ground where it lands.

General tip for attacks where you are not sure how to avoid them, you can hold guard while dodging for extra safety. Make sure you do not hold guard for too long or too early as it slows your stamina regeneration. This is very useful for his ranged lightning/chaos attacks and his later phase attacks with Chaos AOE element.

It's kind of an obnoxious fight.

After certain attacks he leaves his head at ground level for a few seconds so you can actually reach it. Successfully defend those attacks and hit his head with your most frontloaded, high damage abilities. Breaking his horns and depleting his stamina are your other opportunities to do damage, so be ready to take full advantage of them.

He doesn't have a ton of HP thankfully, but you will spend a lot of the fight just defending and waiting for the few attacks you know you can punish.

“How do you fight this guy” “not looking for tips”

Ok
Well I haven't reach that boss yet, but looks like a giant dragon, so it should be able to get some descent parries or dodging !
Well soon as I get this guy I will let you know how I did it 😆

Good luck all!!!
If it greatsword perfect guard and the perk where you can hit light attack right after. If he does that thing when he fling his body against the ground at 30% just eat it with a block or learn to dodge it. a heavy charge can always hit him right in the head.

Ok
I'm not looking for tips. I know what I'm supposed to do, I'm just having trouble doing it. If you read my complete post you would have seen that I am just venting some frustration. "How do you even fight this guy" was just a figure of speech

I know you don't want tips, but I didn't know about this until I beat the game for the first time. Khazans memories give you damage buffs. One of base damage, one for multiplier and one for stamina dmg. I basically played the game on hard and was shocked how tanky the bosses were, tbh I actually really enjoyed how long the fights were, but now using the memory stat buffs on a second playthrough nothing feels tanky anymore with good combos. The memories work off every location you've cleared so that's how you get vengeance points to level up the dmg stats.
Hisma is quite easy to break stance once you just guard his attack and hit his head. every last hit he land will give some opportunity to attack and you can do some damage. once his stance is broke either you deplete his stamina or break his horn, do some combo attack and finish with brutal attack to do massive damage.

went down at second attempt. just run through it with whirlwind and phantom ghost dance. is easy. every boss after switching to dual wield and whirlwind build has been first or second attempt to me. kinda made the game a bit boring to be honest
the easiest boss in the game. after yetuga

even on easy with 99 str I make nothing to his health ....
I love the game until this boss. I can get him to 50% with some heals left. However, once he starts spamming chaos AOE slam attacks and some new attacks, then I run out of healing and stop being able to do much damage. i may eventually manage but every failed attempt is horribly boring (until 50%) and takes too long. I am not having fun any more. Time for a break from this game to play AI Limit. We shall see if I ever complete Khazan.

Worst fight in the game by a huge margin imo. Tedious, boring, camera is trash. If you're gonna make his head the only targetable part of his body, at least make it always hittable on the ground. Having to wait for him to lower it or spam jump attack skills is boring af. I busted out the drowned witch set for this one and just cranked javelins into his face whenever I had spirit lol. Made it a lot less tedious.
