I genuinely hate the Ozma fight.
It's just tedious. The dude has 3 phases, and each one takes a while with him just flying away and making you chase him. Then you catch him and the camera gets ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up against an invisible wall or he flies straight up above you so you can only see his toes. The worst is the first phase. I hate the way human bosses behave with stamina in this game. The amount of times I'll brink guard into a damaging combo and watch their stamina start rising from like 2% instead of breaking WHILE I'm hitting them--mind you this was preceded by a brink guard, meaning no time was given to them--is infuriating.

Add to that him constantly throwing down AoEs that last for minutes and he seems to always want to stand in them so you risk getting hit with chaos even when he's not directly attacking you, and he spends so much time in the air that if you try to stay close you're always looking up while the ground is covered with lingering AoEs.

For me Ozma is all the worst parts of the game thrown into one and then also extended because he has 3 phases. Reese was such a fun fight. I wish they had ended it there.

Edit: Oh and I forgot, he's also immune to all status effect build ups. So not only does he have the most phases of any fight, he's also maybe the only one that you can't try to speed things up with some fire/poison/earth stuff. They really want you to just have to fight this dude for 10 minutes. If you die at minute 8, oh well, start over. It's so tedious.

Sat around for a bit wondered what i should do, tried upgrading my gear found that there's a limit, leveled to 200 only to find that this did more or less nothing to aid me against ozma. Then read a comment someone was saying that true ending was originally intended for ng+ where limits were higher so i just said screw it bumped it down to easy and did it first try. No intention on playing ng+ at the moment as when i collected all the jars my jar shop doesn't work anymore. So ill wait for patch then ill come back and do it on normal i guess. In the mean time ive been enjoying AI Limit which is another souls like that has no difficulty setting and im enjoying that.
I'm actually planning to buy and play AI Limit, too, after beating Khazan lol

Yeah it really is a slog honestly my hats off to those who took days or hours and beat him on normal, i just couldn't be bothered to keep running for hours. Its not impossible its just tedious.
I had fun fighting him.

Took me around 7 attempts to beat him. I fought him 3 times before bed and was going to go to sleep and try again later. Instead took a break, came back and started to notice his patterns. The main weakness of ozma, is he is slow. Reese showed you how to damage his stamina bar (Because she did the exact same thing at times.) without even touching him. His first phase is the worst, but only if you don't reflect any attacks.

I did it with a great sword, arguably one of the worst weapons to go up against him with due to the speed. If you're using dual or spear, you shouldn't have too much issue, but if you are using greatsword, do this.

Get the fleshripper set, use phantom veil, inner fury, apex limit break and furious swipe. Those are really the only skills you'll need to win that are activatable aka spirit skills. When he rushes you and you deflect, pop a phantom veil, charged lasts longer than uncharged. Next charge at you, inner fury, the charge will pop phantom veil, which will activate your charged moves are faster and you can apex limit him, which "Should" wallop him for nearly 30k. What it comes down to is that combo is 4 spirit (2 and a half if you build for it.) and you get spirit regen and normally leads to a brutal attack, so each exchange to Ozma is around 60-75k of his HP. Also, use the healing spirit, it helps to conserve HP orbs.

Yeah i never got really good at the reflects even with the timing window upgrade some times i got it and some times i didnt which just become more annoying than worth it as i had 3 phases to do, i couldnt waste hp on a 50/50 shot on a reflect so i didnt bother. I was using spear and tried to rush him down with the golden set moonlight awakening combo, i did more damage but having to learn a whole new move set was just going to mean more time wasted so in the end i went back to my fallen lord set and just used moonlight/full moon, timing my attacks and doing perfect blocks. Probably with another few hours or thirty mins if i was lucky i would have done it as i did get to 3rd phase with 1/4th of health left to go on him (used willpower orbs over the attempts about 18 of them if i remember). But it was just too tedious knowing id have to go through two phases to get back there. Nice of you to post tips for the greatsword, if i do a greatsword run ill put that knowledge to use thanks.

AMEN!
Boss is not only the hardest boss but also the most tiring one. After couple of tries I feel much more tired than going though an entire chapter. 2 phase would be sweet spot.

I just cleared him and I agree he has all the stuff I don't like in one package. He doesn't feel difficult he really was just tedious. If you are great or quick at pattern recognition I am sure he is a breeze. These bosses scripting makes me think of Mega Man X bosses and such.

I just dodge him while my phantom did damage to him. Then when he went after my phantom I damaged him. Took 2 tries to beat him.

Also wanted to mention that I find stamina damage on stats on gear is very helpful for boss fights.

I don't believe the vast majority of people that hit 200 on NG. Yall cheated to get that. It takes like 50 million lacrima to go from 150 to 200. Even if your farm is a relatively quick 53k, thats still 1000 times you are doing it to grind out max level. That's like 15+ hours of straight grinding.

And just because a stat hits some level of diminishing returns doesn't mean it's soft capped. You get 50 vitality until 30 levels in it then you get 40 per level until 60 levels in it and then 30 per level after that. That's still a ton of health. Stamina follows a similar pattern where you get one small drop at 30 and one small drop at 60 but still get a very sizable amount.
This may surprise you, but Ozma, and practically every other boss in the game is significantly more fun to fight on NG+. Because by that point you have a full build and gear to work with, you can now not only deal respectable damage, but the bosses health bar no longer feels bloated. Ozma when I fought him in NG took 34 tries and about 5 hours. In NG+? 1 try, he never saw what hit him. Of course, in NG I was using dual wield, with NG+ I went full spear so results may vary.
I thought it was really cool. Super cinematic and the sounds during that fight are awesome.
