Hmm, that's strange. I just beat him last night myself. I didn't run into any issues where perfect blocks stopped working for me though. Maybe try again later, or maybe there's an unreported bug?
Are you talking about parry or perfect block? I have no idea what's up with parry.
L1+O this block doesn't work because it doesn't enter the animation.
Yeah, I've never gotten that to work with the spear. No idea. I switched over to perfect blocks and shadow strikes instead.
No, Reflect is an ability you have to unlock in the skill tree. It's the most effective block, taking half of the opponent's stance away in one block. It's difficult, though, because not every attack can be blocked with Reflect. And the one with the warning is the Impulse block.
The timing for a counter attack is around the same as a brink guard. You need to activate it just before you get hit. Don't try to use the same timing as a reflect where you activate it early.
