Levels matter more beyond the diminishing returns on stats themselves
A lot of people keep saying "levels don't even matter" and this couldn't be further from the truth

Max level determines the max level of gear that drops

In addition to having higher DMG / Defense / STA / HP on the gear itself based on level, the random attributes they roll are also weighted based on the level of the gear

More levels = higher gear = better stats

It doesn't matter because in order to play well you should not be hit. No matter what gear you wear, if you suck, you will die easily and if you play well, it wouldn't make much difference anyway.

The .0000001% of people will play without getting hit but the other 99.99999% of us will want some gear
Nobody said don't level at all, you still put a point somewhere more efficient so your argument doesn't make much sense.

You are missing the whole point. I didn't tell you to do a no damage run. I am telling you that regardless of what gear you are wearing, if you do not have a skill to either properly dodge or properly block, you will die. And the amount of damage reduced by gear is not that much anyway. Unless you are super over-leveled, by like 50 levels, then it becomes more significant.

This is objectively false.

The level increases the randomized attributes, like the post states. This includes such stats as Reduces incoming DMG % which is significant. It also affects DMG mods, making the fight go faster if you're doing significantly more damage.

I'm not sure why you're arguing the post - I never said play good or bad, I simply said levels directly influence player power in ways beyond just the stats themselves. You're making a weird straw man out of this.

It's not an argument, it's a fact - people complain that leveling up isn't enough of a power boost because of diminishing returns on stats. I'm simply saying there's a lot more to it than that and levels are the single strongest way to increase your overall power beyond just stats as it has a direct impact on the maximum margins of your gear's strength.

i'm sorry for hijacking the post, but i see you don't have a finish the game without advocacy achievement. did you summon constantly or just once?
trying to figure out if phantom needs to be present on the killing attempt to lose the achivement or is summoning it once to see what it does is already enough.

as to OP: from what i understand phantoms of adversity always drop current level gear. i farmed level 75 gear outside of xaldin door in the nameless cavern. i went back there for 78 and again just yesterday for 81, while the area itself is recommended for 58.

I don't get why people complain about diminishing returns on stats like it's a bad thing. It allows them to give more stats in the early levels so you don't have to pump a majority of your levels in 1 stat to get good returns. In my opinion the fact that hp stam and secondary stats have diminishing returns but damage doesn't is weird.
