Took me 20-25 tries to beat his a**, wtf is wrong with his moveset??? It didnt seem particularly difficult but he kept wiping the floor with me! Was it the movement and combat? Was it input lag? (Cant be, I disabled FG and Boost) or was it just nerves?

If this boss was so tough wtf are the rest of the bosses like???

Viper is hard yes, but a joke compared to some bosses after it :) GL :)

I hate to tell you but if you played Sekiro (I have not, but I understand Lies of P was very reminiscent of it and thus, this), you should know how this song and dance goes by now. Brink guard check to break their poise and then you start slamming down the damage by accumulating your spirit and expending a bunch of it to do a sick ass combo. You can even do this after brink guarding enough times OUTSIDE of poise break bc you staggered the boss and are able to do a combo for free.

Depending on your weapon, you can even deal some decent counter attack damage in between brink guards/brink dodges. I used greatsword, and I used the counter double slash thing to great effect myself.

Viper is meant to be a wall, because if you think this boss is hard, just wait until the game will require you to brink guard, and then to brink dodge to avoid status build ups, as well as grabs more often in boss fights, or multi brink guards in succession, or ect.
You have to be ready and Viper is there to show you that.
A wall is necessary so that you learn how to actually play the game and are then granted the tools to thrive, sorry.

I strongly disagree with this. I've beaten Sekiro like 3+ times, fought and killed all bosses, etc., and I did not struggle with any boss except maybe the very final boss in Sekiro like I am struggling with Viper, and this is still basically the beginning of the game. The difficulty even after the nerf simply doesn't make sense for where you are in the game at this point. It's not balanced well.

Besides that fact, I really feel that the greatsword sort of sucks. You never have any stamina even after pumping points into endurance, and its damage output doesn't offset that. Also, reflecting is extremely difficult to the point that it doesn't feel practical to even try.

Dont talk to me like im a newb, Ive beat:-
Sekiro,
DS 1,2,3,
Elden Ring,
Black Myth Wukong
and plenty more, all with keyboard and mouse but this games got some issue, its not as snappy and responsive, not doing exactly what I want when I need it to.

I feel like if you're complaining about any of the bosses in this game you didn't fight Erlang in Wukong.

Erlang was tough, but honestly a lot easier to learn.

Greatsword early is hard to use. Suggested if you can't manage your stamina, to switch to a different weapon for now. Great sword starts to shine around boss 6-7. Before that though, it isn't the best, unless you know stamina management well enough.

I suggest summoning a phantom before you enter the boss room. When you do, make sure that you're tag-teaming Viper and you don't allow your phantom to get smacked around too much... (Or else, you'll end up soloing the boss by yourself and see the inevitable "Khazan Has Fallen" screen.)

The phantom is useless due to poor AI. He just get sucked into the AOE tornado attack that Viper does and instantly dies.
Viper was definitely super difficult, but not unfairly so. My main issue with him was the fact that I couldn't practice his second form, because by the time I beat the first, I was running low on heals. So, I had to really LOCK IN and beat his first form with as many heals as I could save - and I managed it. This was pre-nerf, so he's definitely doable.

The secret is really just locking in. Taking a pause, not being frustrated, coming back and then trying until you get it just perfect.

I have been summoned. “Greatsword does no damage” is the spell that spawns me into existence.

I beat him after like 20+ tries (before the nerf), but I just got to NG+ and with a full understanding of the games ssytems and a fully kitted out character (and the nerf) it was a joke of a fight.

I don't know how they nerfed him but they definitely made his stun animation last way longer because I was comboing him for like 35% of his health before he even gained hyper armor back lol. I literally thought I had bugged hi AI out, but nope they just allow for very long combos on him of you chain skills together.

Oh the bosses only get better from there and honestly some of the final bosses are some of the most memorable in recent memory.

Yes, I've seen you spam this video in 3 different threads so far. It's not helpful. Just because it's possible doesn't mean it's the reality for most players. For all we know you could have practiced for 10 hours straight and spent hours min-maxing the skills to figure out the exact right combination that would be useful. We shouldn't have to rearrange our build that drastically for a boss so early in the game.

From limited testing. It seems like about an 8th of his health was removed in both phases His stamina was lowered by a barely noticeable amount. His stamina damage against you was heavily nerfed. I don’t know about his damage. It’s not really that big of a change honestly.
wait till you deal with Maluca lol
All I can tell you is that it can be difficult and it'll get worse but there are skills you can learn to make it easier too

Let’s argue for a minute that I did do that. Why would that hypothetical reality mean greatsword does no damage? Also this is not the only way to play greatsword, that was never the point. You want me to do brink guard greatsword? Maybe don’t charge anything greatsword? Greatsword does good damage and people saying “oh it doesn’t do good damage” is just disengenious. Whatever build you pick to use with the greatsword is your responsibility to learn and use. No different from the other two weapons in that regard. Maybe don’t use the pieces of the greatsword kit that you haven’t invested in for better results. Are you saying I should assume people complaining about charged hits doing no damage are coming from people who put their points in everything but charged attacks? That was the assertion I kept seeing so that was the assertion to respond to with a video of charge greatsword gameplay.

Its hard to tell with an endgame build but regardless the early game bosses are not designed for a kitted out character, as they just get stunlocked to death by long combo chains. But I'm not complaining as it feels very fun bullying the bosses you use to struggle with lol
Viper was a nightmare with sword and axe but easy with spear. The issue is more with weapon balance than anything.
I'm still stuck on him. About 32 tries, and last time I went through phase 1-2 with only one heal. Still can't reliably counter his lunge.

And I reliably make it to phase 4. If I had any consumables left, he'd be dead.

This is a boss that is borderline unbeatable at my skill level at low level and poor gear, but the way the game is designed, you keep getting stronger.

So a combination of stats improving and you skill growing will defeat him.
