Game is a reskinned Nioh 2 / Wo Long
Did anyone spot any differences? I can't think of anything besides the art style and setting/characters.

Yea you can tell that at least somebody in charge was also involved with nioh. They literally copied everything down to the story. Kind of insane but then again nioh was super good, it just failed cuz they made the game hard and convoluted in all the wrong places instead of trying to make a game with high depth accessible.

They didn't manage to change any of that for this game either, it's the same convoluted BS, at least there are ingame tooltips telling you what stats on items do now. But yea the issue of nioh was that the game was too hard from both your side and the enemy side to an unreasonable degree.
Such a shame tbh, it would be so easy to make a nioh 3 game that has Elden Ring level of success or goes even harder, but for some reason they just refuse to do that.
nioh hard? people are bad nowadays

nioh is hard lol. it's considerably harder than any from soft game except maybe sekiro. and it's NG+ is actually harder than NG, even with all your utility, unlike ds which just got easier until you're at like Ng+++ where it starts evening out. admittedly at release when you could exploit Yokai Shift the game was considerably easier, but it's been patched and the game in it's current state is challenging. even if it's not difficult for you because you're a pro gamer, when compared to other games it is in fact hard.

i've seen just as many people say that this and nioh are nothing alike as there are people who say they are exactly the same. i'm in the middle where it's similar to nioh, but there are plenty of differences. considerably more weapon choices in nioh, less focus on full armor sets in nioh, more platforming in nioh, greater emphasis on yokai shift than phantom mode which is barely used by most players (takes a HUGE skill point investment for viability), stances, way bigger emphasis in guarding in this game compared to dodging in nioh and the list goes on. overall i'd say it's closer to nioh than dark souls tho for sure.

I like it much more than Nioh 2. Had enough of that floaty combat after Nioh 1.

Combat is far more fluid. I love Nioh to death for what it is and i think it's combat is really good, but I think the combat specifically is miles better in here.

That being said, don't really care if they're similar. I love Nioh so I love this game. I don't see why you feel the need to somehow defend Niohs honor? Can there only be one game franchise in a certain franchise or else it's a reskin of x or y game?

Such a weird take.
Nioh 2 has the best combat for me, so many different styles and weapons that play differently, authentic, apart from pulse ofc Then again I love most games by Team Ninja, even if there are, erm, performance issues with Rise of the Ronin. I'd play that with performance issues over AC Shadows every day of the week.

At the end of the day, Team Ninja never improved unlike From Software. They had their gimmicks with special moves, yokai stuff, combos, stances and they downgraded ever since. Their games feel more like diablo than souls-games.

Khazan is much better. Team Ninja are just the epitome of a B-tier dev company.

Yeah, I agree, combat is still top tier but Rise of the Ronin is an action adventure game.

If you're only looking at Nioh the only real difference is the stances, but they replaced them with the deflect system from Wo Long.

Can you name one gameplay mechanic or design choice in Khazan that's not lifted from Nioh or Wo Long?

Devs have openly said they're huge Nioh fans iirc.

The parry windows in this are more forgiving than Nioh. The timing on reflects/deflects is more difficult than any of the timing in Nioh. The way some abilities parry based off animation timing and some parry based off weapon location takes some getting used to.

team ninja makes great games, just their game engine is trash. after rise of the ronin they have switched to unreal engine instead of struggling with optimization with their old engine.

say what you will but Nioh 2 is hands down one of the best games i have ever played, although i dont look at it as a soulslike, it is definitely the best soulslike. of course you are free to say otherwise, but this one sided hate you have for it is not universal.
The game is basicly Nioh reusing assets from a cancelled MMO. Shame about the MMO. Hope this game does well enough that they may reconsider using this game as a base for a future multiplayer project.

It's definitely true that the last great game Team Ninja made was Nioh 2. Everything after that has been a soulless b-team cashgrab.

It's kinda sad seeing another studio make a great game with their formula while Team Ninja is busy "appealing to a wider audience."

Hate? I think they make decent games, just not From Software-tier like some say. Level design, OST, animations and sound effects are still not on that level. I only really dislike Nioh 2 because I expected so much more from it after Nioh.

I think Khazan did the animations really well and at least passable in sound design (some sfx seem to be copied from Lies of P).

In Khazan's case, the loot doesn't make sense because they didn't fix the demo weapons scaling, so I'm just using demo weapons. Furthermore, I bought the deluxe version so I'm using the deluxe armor, which is way too OP compared to anything else. They made loot basically stuff to get free lacrima.

Good news about the switch. Not a great fan of Unreal engine mind but I think that comes from most of the half baked games, rushed out and using assets.
Also wasn't keen on the aesthetic of Lords of the Fallen. There isn't a whole lot I like about that tbh.

We don't know that they switched to Unreal Engine unless I missed it.

Ninja Gaiden 2 Black is a graphical remaster and NG4 is made by Platinum.

I hated LotF 2.0. At some point, I didn't know where to go and was just aimlessly wandering the map until I uninstalled it. The lack of enemy diversity and weak bosses didn't make it more fun.

Definitely more depth in combat over Fromsoft. We've had the same ol formula with the combat from them since, well, Dark Souls. Not taking Sekiro into account. The games have just gotten better and most likely more accessible.
