How does gear drop in this game?

If anyone's done any testing, is it completely random or can you target farm certain bosses that might have much higher chances or even exclusively drop certain set gear?

Some will have a higher % chance to drop certain gear, such as blade phantom having a higher chance of dropping the soul reaver set or whatever it was called. Otherwise, you can get any set from literally anywhere.

Each area has a pool of armor sets that it can drop pieces from. Bosses drop 1 of their set items + 1 gear item that drops in the area, a chance at the material for crafting their set and a very rare chance to drop the item that resets the respec cost on a piece of gear.

You can create sets you want after getting their blueprints, you dont have to farm for them. Once leveling becomes slower, that's when you should start thinking about creating your own gear.

there are some mobs that always drop a gear piece (sometimes two) and often they are near a save point. not elites but usually the strongest type of normal mob for any given area

the loot tables are pretty broad though, you not only have to get the right set piece but the right parts (i.e. boots, leggings pauldrons etc). there can be 5/6 possible sets to roll from too, so it could take hours to get a full set of one specific thing.

honestly it's usually better just to farm boss gear or try and find blacksmith recipies once you get access to crafting

i'm pretty sure each level has their own loot table although they do have sets that appear on later levels as well, so some sets will appear more often than others
