no, in essence you just have to get good...
I would suggest dodging some stuff you cannot guard properly against and if you cannot hit those furious strikes or whatever they are called, also dodge them.

furious you mean the grab strike, so its just memory then?
This boss is 100% overtuned. Seriously really getting tired of getting destroyed because the devs thought it was a great idea to have a boss with two whole ass health bars with so little healing for the player to use. Always amazes me when devs can't understand the damn basic of boss design. Have a PROGRESSIVE curve of difficulty that goes with the player's options. Tf am I supposed to do besides becoming a no hit runner against something stupid like that? I don't even feel like i'm doing better even though i'm always reaching phase 2, because half the time I get hit by ♥♥♥♥ I shouldn't have been hit by..

My advice: the first phase of this boss is really easy to learn that counter move for most of his moves (not the B one, the Y one) use that to great a really easy phase 1 then just go for dodges in phase two if you are not confident in brink blocks.

Any weapon will do but I find the Y parry easiest on greatsword due to the animation lining up well for timing where the frames start.

This is actually an excellent boss to just say "you know what? I'm not going to beat this for a bit just to grind the mechanics into my muscle memory." Practice the first phase and only allow yourself one heal to save healing for the second. If you are taking too much damage just die and reset until the first phase is a cakewalk.

It took me 9 tries to complete this boss. It's not over tuned. It's forcing you to learn the basic game mechanics that you've gotten to this point.

Focus on defense and learning the moves. Don't worry about attacking. Both phases become trivial after you learn the move sets. I don't think I even got hit by phase 1 (maybe nicked) the last two attempts before I beat him. You just gotta take breathers and breaks if you're tilting.

Also, there's no shame in summoning or dropping to easy. If you're frustrated, you're not having fun. The point of a game is to enjoy it. I would also say that this genre isn't for everyone. I personally like the challenge.

They just nerfed him big time yesterday or the day before. If you are struggling so much, you can switch to easy mode. The following bosses are much harder, so if Viper is overtuned for you, then you won't be able to progress later on.

A lot of this yes, you need to memorise some patterns of the boss and react properly. Like the grab animation or stab animation. I was also talking about the counterattack execution. If you have a hard time hitting that, just dodge instead.
And when he goes all shadow on you, you can just brink guard, dodge or reflect it. And then lay it on him with a spirit skill. Once you interrupt him, you can drop him quickly.

That reflection skill is terrible

I will agree reflection is terrible. That is why I made the post, all the weapons have the same base damage, so I was wondering if I was just screwing myself using the greatsword.

Reflection is absolutely awesome. I've killed many bosses primarily with that skill. If you think it's terrible, you simply do not know how to use it.

Consort Radahn is one of the most bs bosses in existence... The bosses in this game are much better and mostly do not have any BS that you cannot deal with. In particular Viper is really great, I like the fight very much. Very skill-based and if you beat him, you know your skills improved. Also many enemies later on will use similar moves, so it's good to learn them at this time as well.
