gearing feels abit... odd?
every new boss i encounter feels JUST as spongy as the last boss, i never feel like getting a new armor piece or weapon makes me have a better chance, its just chip damage or alot of comboing i have to do, it doesnt matter if my set is 1 set bonus or 6 set bonus, i dont really feel like im making a difference in how much damage i deal to the nxt up coming boss.

in nioh or other souls like you feel more powerful the longer into the game you get , but seems like the enemy defense rises so much that you never feel more powerful than the last boss you fought in terms of the damage you do to it

yeah feels like damage scaling is conservative on purpose. the more significant power gain is with skills and upgrading them also some of the set bonuses that fit a specific build

i am using the fallen guardian set since i got it, and a unique weapon for lvl 80 but i didnt feel like it mattered vs any bosses i face, it stil felt like the same weapon i used vs the first boss
i prefer this design compared to other games where your damage can get much much stronger and allow you to trivialize later bosses. it is unusual/rare design choice though, not many games do it this way

Getting overpowered in RPGs is the best part.

i mostly agree for turn based and JRPGS, but not for action RPGS where you can make much more of an impact with mechanical skill rather than just increased stats

Why not? There's nothing more fun than discovering an overpowered build in games like Icewind Dale 1 or Demon's Souls and dominating everything. I'll never understand the strange mentality that came with the PC release of the PtDE.

Because people buy different genres for different purposes. If I want to feel overpowered i'll play an APRG (diablo/path of exile etc) that gives me that power trip. I fI want a strategic/challenging RPG that doesn't allow the game to be broken easily simply by progressing i'll buy these types of games.

It's really not that complicated. Take away the challenge and these games become nothing.

In dark souls most bosses killed with 10-20 hits, here you need 150

If you want to play such games I consider games like Nine Sols or Sekiro and not RPGs.

yes! exactly this. i'll play a JRPG if i want something laid back that I know will let me become super powerful later on. i'll play a roguelite if i want something with focus progression and variety of classes/builds and i'll play these souls-like games if i want mechanical challenges from bosses

it's also fine to enjoy elden ring because of the strongest builds there too, i expect that's probably big reason for it's mass appeal and success in the genre. i just personally prefer the way gear is scaled here, where it's less important and you can focus much more so on the mechanics

nah i don't like the aesthetics and settings of those games, didn't grip me like khazan

I feel like the scaling is about right. I really don't want to over level myself and make trivialise the challenge.

Weird thing to gatekeep. These games are marketed with difficulty in mind heavily. Even in an objective world with only objective views, you'd be wrong.

Yeah this is what ironically trivilizes the game. Instead of using all mecahnics present you just stand afk like idiot and parry 50 times. Very interesting, much skill (reaction time to do literal same thing).

Well but he has a point as this game _has_ those mechanics (gear, skills, etc) and yet they don't have any impact on gameplay, on boss especially. Then this game becomes even more gameplay-absent than old DS games where there are 2 hits literally, as they at least have imba builds to achieve.
