Yeah, as Bylmage said, you have to make sure that Steam Input is disabled in the controller setting in Steam. If enabled Steam tries to make your PS controller appear to be a Xbox controller to the game. You only want to do this if the game supports and recognizes PS controllers natively.
This mod is meant for the game's demo. It may work for the most part for the release version but people have reported issues with the mod. So I'd wait for an update.
It's time like these I wish they just normalize selecting which control scheme I prefer in the settings. I rarely have a game these days auto-detect properly. It would also be nice if Valve would add steam input priority instead of always defaulting to Xbox controls.
Every time I have to start this game up it's this whole cat and mouse routine to get me Dualsense controller to recognize properly with this game.
Indeed, and the game apparently doesn't support it, despite recognising the controller in the games settings by displaying a picture of the dualsense (when I booted the game for the first time). Now I just get an xbox controller image and button layout with or without steam input enabled. If I disable steam input the dualsense doesn't work at all.
Using bluetooth btw.
The main thing to remember is that if a game supports the DualSense controller natively, then you should disable Steam Input in the Steam controller settings, usually.
I use the DualSense controller connected to my PC using a USB cable. Then I just made sure that Steam Input was disabled so that the game will recognize the Dualsense controller.
Make sure you disable Steam Input from the game page on Steam. Meaning, click on Library, click on the game from the list to get to the Steam page for it. On the right side of the screen near the top click on the controller icon and in the popup screen make sure it shows "Enable Steam Input" instead of "Disable Steam Input".
Other than that, I didn't have to make any changes with the the controller settings inside the game.
I hope that helps.
Now it shows Playstation buttons and even the adaptive triggers work.
- Open the game
- Get to the main screen using mouse/keyboard
- Alt + tab
- Set steam input to user default settings
- Turn on the PS4/PS5 controller
For me the PS buttons are appearing like this.
If the game then shows Xbox controls ingame, unplug the controller and re-plug it, while the game is still open, and it will fix it to Playstation icons.
