Second phase is very easy compared to his first phase to me, especially before I realized I could stunlock his first phase a lot. But he does less attacks, easier to parry imo.
Don't let people attack you on whatever weapon you use though. The people crying spear is OP probably don't even know why it was considered OP and the skill is nerfed.
Great sword is amazing and rightfully so if you use, furious swipe and counter strike. Counter strike destroys stamina, furious swipe allows you to move quickly and chase and or get some quick hits on them after a stagger. Combine with the swift ability to do standard attack combos after a dodge and you can then follow up with a blood talon for massive damage output.
Heart Piercer as mentioned for the video posted above is amazing. I went back and fought him again after getting it and would use it at the end of his attack string, it would stagger and set me up to string together spirit skills and charge attacks. I was able to force him into the second half of phase one (his tornado move) after just one of his attack strings this way.
The 2 hit attack followup after a brink guard can safely be used very frequently, not just after the last hit, even on very quick attacks like the move where he stabs twice quickly you can get the 2 hit in and still brink guard the second stab.
Something that may not be obvious to a lot of people is how Savage Momentum (charged swift attack) and Combat Cadence (dodge double hit) work together. You'd expect the needed inputs to be dodge, swift attack x 2 for the Combat Cadence then hold swift attack for Savage Momentum. This works, but you can execute this string SIGNIFICANTLY faster by inputting dodge, swift attack, hold swift attack. Dunno why it works like this but it does, and it makes this string a fantastic bread and butter especially as a followup to dodging a boss's last attack in a string. You can then ffollow that up with Mortal Blow, or wait a split second and charge up a normal potent attack, use a spirit skill etc.
