I hope that they might fix this "issue" because I always think that I am charging an attack meanwhile Khazan is there looking at the Boss's crotch.
That's because those guards still take stamina. So you're at 0 stamina, trying to use a heavy attack..
I'm 37h and 13 main bosses in. I haven't had this happen a single time, that wasn't just because I had no stamina. It's just like everyone was complaining that "counter attacks are broken", but they were timing the counter attacks with the icon that appeared and not the actual animation of the boss.
It was 100% user error, and most likely is here too. Unless you can actually get it on video, because I'm using greatsword and like 90% of my attacks are charged attacks
My issue is different from the others, mine doesn't charge the attack after a dodge/sprint with enough stamina for it.
I didn't have any problem with the counters at all.
Edit: I should also clarify that it sometimes work for the most part, however sometimes it doesn't which is irritating...
I know what you're talking about. I've been in the situation like 600x already. You press the button and nothing happens, but it's because when you hit 0 stamina, from either a dodge / run / or perfect guard / block, it stays stuck at 0 stamina for like 0.5-1 second before it starts to regen again.
Does this ever happen when the stamina bar is near full / half full? If not, then it's just the stamina bar being too low, in one way or the other
As I mentioned before, yes I had stamina, half (more than enough to charge an attack)
I just haven't seen that. If you're affected by plague, it can make your character stagger for a couple seconds. Making all inputs not register, that's the only thing I can even think of, to what you're describing
+ my issue was clear, mate. After dodging/sprinting I can't charge an attack even with enough stamina.
Then take a recording and post it. A dev can't fix an issue that quite literally no one else has. Prove it's a problem first
You can press dodge again to "leave" the state or take damage and hit button again to trigger the hotkey.
Multiple people encountered it, yet "there is always a user error" guy,
So either there is a input read bug and/or stamina UI bug
I had my howling wind stop working but speccing out of it and then respending the skill points fixed it.
Other than that, the biggest bug I've seen is healing. There have been a handful of times where I've been in intense fights and created a window for myself that should be sufficient to heal, and he just straight up doesn't do it when I press up.
Hitboxes are another big offender...this game has some of the sloppiest hitboxes in a soulslike (elden ring is also trash in that regard), all painted over by making the combat i-frame and perfect guard heavy. But heaven help you if you ever need to do a positional dodge without using any stamina, because many attacks can hit several feet outside of where their hitbox should be.
i think I may be able to provide some insight to help fix your issue. I was 67 hours in, and one day I logged on to find my sprint attacks would no longer function. My sprint was set to "hold shift" and my sprint attack was supposed to trigger when I sprint and either left or right click. My "spirit skill" 1 and 2 were set to "shift left click" and "shift right click" respectively. I found that if I changed my sprint to toggle and did not hold down shift when initiating a sprint attack that I would be able to perform the desired attack as I had previously. I then changed my "spirit attack 1" and spirit attack 2" skills to different key binds, and found that I was now able to use sprint attacks as I had done previously. while holding shift.
In short I would wager that what's causing your issue is a key-bind conflict.
