The reason its called a SoulsLIKE is because its LIKE Souls, not literally souls. Duh. What are you even saying right now.
People coined the term when other companies started making games LIKE DARK SOULS. Use your brain. A souls game can't be a soulslike when its literally a souls game. Bloodborne, Elden Ring and Sekiro are just considered to be souls because they're from the source of FROM themselves.
Soulslike as a genre term was coined to describe games that incorporated all of the following elements -
- World design with levels that have you explore and constantly open up shortcuts back to a bonfire
- XP that drops from enemies that's used to level up at said bonfire, or used to purchase things
- XP is lost if you die, and then die again before getting back to your corpse
- A hub with NPCs for character progression
- Minimal story elements, minimal dialogue options, general idea of not really knowing whats going on half the time
- Epic final level bosses that kill you repeatedly and force pattern recognition
There are obviously more elements, this game uses every single one of them, and it's been incorporated in several major titles by now. Lies of P, Lord/s of the Fallen, now Khazan. They are all Souls-LIKE because they use this formula.
Did you even actually play this game? Are you just crying over the art style? Anyone that's played a FROM game before instantly recognizes this as a soulslike, and it's better than most of their titles. I still prefer Bloodborne for aesthetic purposes and vibe and Sekiro is slightly more demanding, but the difficulty tier on some of the bosses here is on par with Sekiro and the final 3-phase version of the last boss is one of the hardest bosses in any game, ever.
Your complaint isn't even so much troll bait, just unintelligent nonsense that isn't grounded in actual facts.
Ive always been curious about this and never have gotten an answer. What did they call "souls-likes" before Demons's Souls came out? What makes something souls-like because ive seen metroidvanias called that which is wild.
You gotta be 15 "lil bro" - Are you afraid to set your profile to public so we can laugh at you even more?
It's a very simple theory. Anything that takes the gaming world by storm since the conception of games was being given a genre, even if there were other similar ones before it, and the name sticks with it.
Just report him for trolling and toxicity and hopefully he'll be gone. He LITERALLY made this account just to troll here. Check his comments. He made it a few days ago.
That is.. I almost feel bad for him. Imagine going through the effort to create an account to spend hours on steam making trash takes and coping with life this way. I suddenly lost all interest in further communication. Man, sorry I told you the truth about you being a waste, with some professional help you might be able to become a better person. Good luck!
