For those that hate the "Deflect" Parry Skill.
I hate it too, so here's a tip to help you land it more consistently (if you haven't just given up already).

Don't think about it like a brink guard, since it's much slower. You have to time the parry so that your weapon of choice makes contact with the enemy at the exact frame it would've hit you. Using this any other way will get you beat and leave you feeling like you just wasted points.

Hope that helped and gl lads.

People hate it because without proper upgrades, it's just a bad version of brink guarding into normal counters (LB then X basically.) which you unlock really early and are way safer. Yes, reflecting does a lot of stamina damage, but if you miss, you take a lot in turn. It's flashy and cool, but definitely situational.
it's essentially DS2 parry, except you have no parry dagger, or buckler, or wooden shield, actually it's DS2 parry except you're using a tower shield
I have personally decided to completely ignore it. I got used to brick guarding and this having a completely different timing window just keeps throwing me off and I take huge amounts of dmg for nothing. Even knowing how the mechanic works I just keep failing it 50% of the time.

And just for reference without any spoilers, I am at the 6th main story boss, playing on normal so mastering this skill definitely wasn't needed. At least for now. Let's see if there will be a boss later on where using Reflection will be "a must".
Well the best way I've found to use it is to weave it in between brink guards. Fishing for the counter off rip will probably get you hit more often than not. I'm thinking the purpose of the move is to catch specific moves in a boss combo that aren't so quick they stuff the deflect start-up.

You'd be correct, it's why they show it against the slow dragonkin enemy. People will try to use it vs fast enemies, but it is a bad idea. If you want to see it really work, go fight the first strong enemy on the banished hero level, the one with the halberd. You cannot miss the reflect against him lol.
