Yes, true.
But when we finish demo we saw video and at the end we see greta axe. But now we know its not a new weapon.
It also just could be a special weapon that is automatically used to kill something special. Like the mortal blade in Sekiro.
Also call me OCD, but am I the only one annoyed the dual wield option is a short sword and an Axe, instead of being uniform weapons lol.
Ye sure. Now I think its a part of dual-wielding.
But i hope in future dlc they will add more weapon type. Like nioh (7 or 8) if i remeber. Maybe +
I was expecting at least 5 base game weapon types like Nioh 1 as 3 just seems like too little, but maybe we have just been spoiled by Team Ninja games (I know I have lol).
Same hahaa.
Thats why il will never play this weapon type lol.
I go for spear ^^
Oh I loved the demo, but now that Rise of the Ronin is coming out in the same month and I already know the combat customization will be top notch, I will have to go with that game first.
My biggest question that may make me change my mind is how in depth does the loot/builds get? If the stats on gear become really game changing later in the game that can add much more replayability even with 3 weapon classes, but that has yet to be shown off in depth.
Honestly games need more of this, less content bloat but design it really well. Especially when they're ''looter'' games.
I agree and disagree. I agree that content bloat and diminishing of the quality of that content is a problem in many modern games, but I would not put more weapon types into that category of content.
If the game launched with like 3 different game modes and each one was underwheling/undercooked and did not flow well into each other I could see the argument. However, for a game launching in the looter space, the more classes, weapons types and ways to build your character the games launches with the longer it will retain the player base through replay ability alone.
Also as I mentioned before we know it will be loot focused but we have no idea how in depth they plan to take it, in terms of end game systems, NG+ modes, how build defining will gear get,...etc. I hope they showcase some of this off in marketing leading closer to release.
I've seen many games where weapon types were added just for the illusion that they have a lot of content but those types didn't really add anything to the game because they were functionally the same as some other types.
And if you decide to make each type add something relevant to the game then you need to think about the design of the entire game and it's balance. Sometimes you end up with a better game if you have less.
Something like Elden Ring for example has a ton of weapon abilities and spells but many of them clearly had close to no thought put into them when it comes to fast boss fights. And a lot of them are very weirdly balanced, like they only had time to properly design a part of it and added the rest after anyway.
I agree but we have already seen with the demo that these are not like Elden Ring weapons where there are hundreds of them that all mostly feel and play the same. This game is taking the Nioh approach where weapon TYPE is fully kitted out with a full skill tree with, actives, passives, ...etc.
Nioh 1 base game launched with 5 weapon types each with their own skill trees and did not feel bloated, nor did it feel unbalanced.
I just hope this game as some decent post launch support as I would love it being like Nioh where full weapon types (not just skins) with their own skill trees are added in expansions/DLCs. I would love a fist weapon with this games combat system, but you can't have everything you want can you ;(
Well again, that's what I was thinking about when I said that you need to think about the design of the entire game if you go with the second route of making all weapon types relevant.
Team Ninja are a top tier dev studio and had plenty of time to test multiple weapons in action games before they made Nioh.
These guys are just some randoms that were making pay to win MMOs, I think it's fine if they start with less.
I'm still going to play it and I;m very much excited to experience the full game, but I was just expecting more then 3 weapon types is all, especially given the demo already lets us play with all of them already.
This is why I'm hoping they use that DFO knowledge to give us an impressive loot system where a legendary weapon can have unique qualities to combat, making it play slightly differently then the lower rarities. Whether its new moves added to your kit, new skills exclusive to that unique,...etc.
