Bosses give you xp each time you die
And you get your lost xp back instantly outside the boss arena. That's... pathetic...

I actually like it, it gives you a change to learn the boss instead of mindlessly grinding for mobs for extra exp. With other games you'd have to get your exp back during the boss fight which is dumb, I prefer this over that.

You don't *have* to get your souls back in souls games, you can just not enter the boss room with 50k souls like an idiot. The fact that you get so much xp after each failed attempt is ridiculous. Doesn't matter how bad you are at the game, doesn't matter is you never dodge or parry or anything, you'll eventually just be completely overlevelled for the boss.

No you won't be. Levels mean ♥♥♥♥ in souls games, you are never over leveled for anything if you have no skills. And the amount of lacrima you get from dying to the boss is equivalent to killing 1-2 basic enemies if you didn't do that well and killing one slightly stronger enemy if you did do well.
In particular for this game near each of the bosses in the demo there is a possible grinding loop and doing one loop will give you more lacrima than fighting the boss 5 times and almost beating him. So no, it won't make over leveled or give you any big advantage.
And if you don't want the XP, then go and jump off a cliff and lose it forever.

this sh*t is toxic rhetoric right here

You need to actually make progress. Running in, landing a hit and dying will do nothing.
So your claim that "it doesn't matter" how bad you are is completely false, since the xp return is milestone-based.
Oh no, the game actually incentivises you to go in and LEARN THE DAMN FIGHT instead of rambling around for hours and hours making sure you're 1000% ready! The absolute horror! A game that wants you to play it instead of wasting your time. How awful, really.

Dumb ♥♥♥♥.
You realise almost no one else has to do that in other souls games? That's just you apparently because I've never heard that before. Most people are already the intended level for 90% of the bosses in say elden ring. Only a few cases where you need to spend maybe 20 minutes on prep, final bosses or secret bosses etc. You call me dumb but you just outted yourself at being really bad at these games.
Why are you booing? I'm right.
An easier solution to all this would be to remove the useless leveling and stats altogether. Sadly, most people will complain about that.

You don't get it, the shareholders said that some pointless "RPG stats" system and some colour coded gear would make the game sell six million % better and have twelve gajillion % better player retention because something something trends and metrics.
It's pretty simple, devs: If you can't implement RPG mechanics into your game in a meaningful way, then DON'T, you are only insulting the concept of RPGs by doing so.

Getting some experience for attempting the boss is one of the best ideas I have seen in this genre in a long while.
Gaining some amount of experience for attempting a boss where I gain experience by performing a task absolutely make sense. You get the experience as you progress through levels in a same way. Why would it not happen on the boss?

I do not care about lost experience instantly returning to you as I would normally in a souls-like go to a boss encounter with no stored experience. However, since we are getting experience in during boss encounter in Khazan, it would be counter-intuitive to immediately lose it upon death.

games like these need to be rewarding to work well

obviously people will complain and get bored faster if they feel like they don't get much for beating all these enemies

Just beat the boss the first time and quit your ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥? Then you won’t have to worry about continuously getting exp for getting ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on. Don’t like it? Don’t play it.

The solution is to make this an optional setting

You're going to need it. The stat boosts you get from stuff are super minor BUT definitely important. And everything is tuned to be like a superboss. So every bit counts. You will never trivialize the game.
