why can't we pause?
Just wondering what is the reason for having the ability to pause ?

I think back to the early days of the actual Dungeon Fighter Online MMORPG when the Tower Of Dead and Illusion was around, you could actually hit a pause button between floors if you or your buddies needed a breather.

There really is no reason for a single player game not to have a pause button though. Being able to continuously obtain sustenance and relieve yourself whenever you need it is important to your health. Eating fast and rush pissing is no way to live.

those two are extremly bad games. Specially wukong where you can littarally stop time of bosses and they do nothing
Will the full game have online features? If not, there's no reason to disable pause.
In Lords of the Fallen you can "pause" the game if you open the photo mode (I mean when you play offline), I don't remember if this mode is present in the demo but I don't think so.
A pause when you open the settings would be useful. In my opinion they should add it since it's a single player game, it wouldn't bother anyone.. on the contrary.

No they're not, not really. Wukong devs explicitly said it's not and Jedi games take inspiration from souls, uncharted, metroidvania etc.
Even if it's not in the works for release, online co-op or invasion type gameplay might be an option they want to keep open for the future.
There is a way to pause a game: use the nvidia photomod in the overlay. Default shortcut is Shift + F2 I believe. Developers definitely added support for this photomod, but didn't add the actuall pause option.

Tfw Lords of the Fallen devs even mentioned you can use photo mode as a pause lmao

If it has any online section during the game play, it is not possible to pause the progress without the permission of server.
So, it doesn't matter whether it was supposed to be single play or multi play, once the function of pause did not work in the game, it just proves that it must have some online session between client and server during the game play or progress (*it was designed in program for some reason.
As a conclusion, it's nothing about soul like games, for example, monster hunter also allowed people to pause during the fight, if they play offline
It is only related to whether there is any online section designed in a game.

For those who don't know.

The lack of a "Pause" feature, is due to the fact that the game isn't designed with continual save states.

The game isn't coded with the idea of auto saving your instance every second.

Every "pause" of a game-state means that the game has saved your state a second prior to the game pausing.

If you unplugged your rig right after pausing, you'd be right back to where you were.

If you unplugged your rig in a game that does not have continual saved states. You'll more than likely go back to the last bond-fire (the bond-fire is the Pause for games like DS, for example).
Not sure this is sound.
Main menu'ing when out of combat in DS does let you pick up from where you left off as it visibly saves your state but I've had some crashes where I spawned where the game last checked for a change (gaining souls, picking up something, etc.)
It's a little similar to No Man's Sky where there are various things the player can do to trigger an autosave like getting in and out of your ship.
The Lords of the Fallen devs however joked after announcing a photo mode that players can use it as a makeshift pause feature. IIRC Elden Ring players suggested to do this too for that game.

Black myth wokong is not a soul-like game.
Because the devs said so. take it or leave it.

Black myth wokong is not a soul-like game.
In that case this isn't soulslike either so any argument liking Khazan to Souls games is mute.
