Found a solution to this.
You have to run the game with steam input disabled, then re-enable it once in-game. I'll write a mini-tutorial for those that need it:

Make sure steam input for Khazan is OFF by clicking the controller icon next to the cogwheel, to the right of "play time" in your Steam library. Now, If the top-right button says "Disable Steam Input" go ahead and click it. If it says "Enable Steam Input" leave it be. Steam Input for this game is no OFF.
Close the window and launch the game.
When the game has loaded up and you see the first logo appears, go ahead and shift-tab to open steam overlay. Now click the controller icon in the bottom menu and click "Enable Steam Input" (if you have steam overlay disabled just alt-tab out of the game and find the same controller icon we used in the first step).
Shift-tab(alt-tab) back into the game and the DualSense should now work with the proper button icons.
Note that if you go directly into settings from the main menu at this point you will see XBOX icons. Ignore this. Just press continue to go into your game and you'll see PS button icons.

To this day using a Playstation controller on steam, especially via bluetooth, can sometimes be a right pain in the ass to get working 100% with all the bells and whistles. Bells and whistles being vibration and proper icons.

Yeah, it sucks that I have to play with Xbox layout.

I complained about this issue when the demo first came out and they didn't do anything to fix it.

They just need to add an option in settings to select the layout that you want no matter what instead of having automatically get detected. So many other games do it right.
