Game doesn't start

Whenever I try to play the game, it just doesn't start! All I get is a black screen and the Windows spinning cursor. I tried different compatibility modes and as an admin user, without success. Does anyone has the same problem? Or better, does anyone know how to fix it? Thanks in advance.

i also have the some problem (win 7). fresh installed, tried also validating.
further, i had the game for a while and when i played it a year ago (or further back) it worked on the same system without any trouble.

same issue here, win 7 x64 ultimate, admin & compatiblity modes don't help.

Try running it with "-windowed" command.

yeah, it used to work for me too. By now, i'm using "-width 1280 -height 800" (although my screen is 1440x900, it's not a big loss). Hope it works for others.

what I did was, go to store page, u own, hit Play and it worked from there initaially, now it works from library too but its a fixed resolution, altering my steam size etc etc pity there is no resolutiion settings....

i had the same problem, i put -windowed in the launch options then it launched then pressed alt + enter to make it full screen, enjoy :)

I just usd the PLAY green button on steam store page as it was throwing errors from my library, after launching from the steam overlay via webpage/storepage I can now launch it in my library button ok. It is set a fixed resolution which rsizes steam exiting etc but no matter....

... in 'Properties...' & 'Set Launch Options...' to make the game works...

And indeed, after running, you can Alt-Enter to make it full screen, if you want...

Hey all,

I have the same problem. I'm using Windows 8 x64. I just bought this game. It's a fresh install. When I open it, the screen goes black, all my windows lose their size & position, and the task manager shows braid as not responding. I've tried 3 times. I used the above-noted launch options to start the game in windowed mode and that seems to be a valid work-around for now. I *do* want to play the game in full-screen mode though. Also, when running in windowed-mode, I can't change the position of the window or resize it in any way (extremely lame!). I hope this problem is actually being dealt with... I know this game is not new, so I am concerned that fixing this won't be a priority for the developer(s)... *fingers crossed*
