Can't play, Microsoft VC Redist install hangs

Hello, I have just bought this game. And it came with a fresh new problem as well!
When I try to launch it, I get the installation of MS VC Redist. Which NEVER completes.
I also tried to launch the game through the executable and not steam, and I can't because that program is needed.
So I tried downloading it from elsewhere and install it: the installation doesn't even begin! It hangs right at the beginning.

Sorry to hear this. Is it possible your anti-virus software is preventing the install of the redist? You can also try manually running the redist installer located within vcredist2013\ where braid is installed. Are you able to play any other steam games that run this redist installer?

I forgot to add this detail, but not even manually launching the redist works. Disabling AVG doesn't fix the issue. The program's installation hangs right at the beginning (always on "Processing: Initializing . . .".
I'm not sure about other games - I think that there are different versions of this program, as the installer comes up often for other Steam games. I can only say that I've never encountered this issue before.

I'm not able to reproduce this issue over here. Similar issues to this have come up where the Anti-Virus program was blocking the installation. Can you tell me what happens when you run vcredist2013\\vcredist_x86.exe manually? A screenshot could help as well.

I get this, the status and the progress bar never advance beyond that.
And "Cancel" doesn't work either, I have to end the program through the Task Manager.

Thanks this is good information. I've updated the [newbeta] version of the game with an attempt to minimize this issue. If you want to try it out do the following:

1. right click Braid in your library
2. click properties
3. click BETAS tab
4. select "newbeta" from drop-down list
5. click LOCAL FILES tab
6. click VERIFY INTEGRITY OF GAME CACHE...

I also looked into this vcredist stuck issue and it is possible that it is just taking a long amount of time on your system. Have you tried letting it run for a while? Have you tried running it with admin privileges?

I did all that. Now there's also a 64-bit version of vcredist in the folder (x64).

Unfortunately, though, the problem seems to be persisting, even with admin privileges. And I'm letting the programs run for as long as I can.
