How do they work? I beat the fight, but never actually understood the reversal prayer mechanic.

The color indicates what element it is using, like red = fire. It then becomes vulnerable to the opposite element, so in that case, ice. I think there are some neutral or other weird colors, like one that allows physical attacks instead, but that's the basics.

[Blunette]

It picks from four elements (Red/blue/green/yellow) and becomes that particular element. It'll only be weak to the opposite. So Red is weak to Ice, Blue/White is weak to Fire, Green is weak to Electric, and Yellow is weak to Wind. Almighty attacks (such as the weapon your new party member is equipped with in that fight, Merchant attacks) still bypass this mechanic, as does skills that ignore resistances (Masked Dancer's dances, General's Frigid Fortress Tactic). I've heard that White/Purple show up but I feel like those are just void-all that you can stall out, pretty sure Gallica will pipe up about disrupting it eventually. Honestly Dancer/General can wreck it by themselves.

I also don't remember if this still applies, but the Human's AI really HATES when you use both a buff and debuff as it liked to try to prioritize Dekaja/Dekunda over actually swinging at you. It might still wig out and try to clear buffs with it's measly two turns even today.

Thanks for the explanation. It was really weird that purple didn't mean a light weakness and white didn't mean darkness, but at least the elemental colours sort of make sense. Annoying fight though... Anyway, I believe prayer reversal happens over buff/debuff clearing, but at least it won't hit you!
