You think the same people who play JRPGs which have always been about social justice, uniting for a common goal, with heroes hellbent on fair treatment, and are often made of diverse party members are the same people who boycotted because of trans representation?
I don't know why lewd anime fans are trying to co-opt JRPGs. These games have always been for the progressive minded relative to any other game genre. I don't know how it is you all missed that after decades of amazing RPGs that have always had themes of fighting for the other, and overcoming the status quo against all odds. You are the status quo. Maybe don't play games that try to upset it, as JRPGs always have.
People are looting stores and burning down buildings when ideas they dont like are shared anywhere.
Stop gaslighting.
The answer is simple. You're misrepresenting people upset with modern pandering in JRPGs as just people who want to masturbate to hentai and you are incapable of having an honest discussion.
Wait for the final full package of the new "Royal" version.
They do this everytime and everytime the cattle purchase it twice.
Not really. Almost every single one of these people who are whining over inconsequentials have an underaged anime girl for their pfp and expect all of these games to be designed to arouse them in some way, hence the non-stop hollering over peach and breast size. I'm not saying there can't be titillating elements in these games, but I don't know if it was ever the primary reason we ever played them. Time and sensibilities changed, but these games haven't changed so much that it'd justify the amount of baseless screaming you see for literally every JRPG release these days. Most of them get mad over badly translated comparison shots that misconstrue the intent of the original Japanese or, more often, these people don't know what they are talking about who start the controversies in the first place.
You're half right though, I can't have an honest discussion with people who are creating controversy out of thin air and asking me why I'm not as outraged as they are. I've been playing these games for near 30 years now, and I've never seen this level of calculated and disingenuous vitriol for every new game release. I'm genuinely not sure what these people even want, because if they really felt some sort of righteous indignation, they would just learn Japanese and GET OVER IT. However, they feel entitled and want to be catered to, even going as far as to want their smut requirement met for games that never centered around that kind of thing, when it was often just a novelty at most. No one else is asking to be pandered to like that.
How many more mountains can we keep making out of these granules of sand for complaints?
You're just doubling down on misrepresenting everyone you dislike as a sad virgin which is funny because it's a very common bullying tactic that you likely learned in school.
Also saying the localization isnt inaccurate and then also telling people who want an accurate experience to learn japanese is kind of self defeating.
You're openly admitting the localization is inaccurate and you're essentially saying as a CONSOOMER you don't care as long as you can play the waifu game
You're not actually above these things you just try to offset it by admitting its problematic.
Like a meth addict who wants to let everyone know drugs are dangerous.
Based on your responses thus far, I can see you're adept at putting words into people's mouths and misrepresenting their points, but you and I both know the majority of the outcry is over things related to "toning down" sexuality, when what I've seen, especially with like the female warrior art from Dragon Quest III (which btw was toned down decades ago a Nintendo Power poster(how's that for precedent?)), which you won't even see in the game outside of the chibi sprite. THAT'S INSANE. That wasn't even part of this era and now you guys are conflating it with "modern sensibilities". Where have you been? We live in a sensitive country, including and especially those who are perpetually outraged over DEI and Woke.
I never said the localizations were inaccurate. I said that people are manipulating the intent of the Japanese to make it appear like the English is such a far departure that it's worth getting upset about. It's nothing more than clickbait for engagement. I followed the Eiyuuden debacle closely and outside of a couple lines, most of the English lines carried over the spirit or personality of the Japanese script.
I'm not sure how telling them to learn Japanese if they can't get over the fact that an English localization will never meet their standard of perfection and whatever else they expect from these games is anything short of reasonable. I think it's fairly sensible, and I did it.... and let me tell you, the grass is always greener on the other side. I genuinely don't feel like these games feel much different in English or Japanese half the time, and if I like a game enough I'll play in both languages.
Lastly, I never said they were all sad virgins, but here's the sad virgin types (your words, not mine) with loli pfps who seem to be the most outraged all of the time, and here I am, a full grown adult that is like... man, to be 13 and not have any real concerns again! My bad, maybe they're hard up for that anime skin, and I should be sympathetic. If they aren't in fact super young, I guess some people never grow beyond that mentality and that is also fine.
Not intending to go off track, I don't consume content mindlessly nor do I have any problem with people criticizing things they don't like that I happen to like, but I've seen the terms woke and DEI get thrown around so much over the most benign things that you just gotta laugh at them at some point, because taking it seriously is a fool's errand. So in that respect, if you're expecting me to come to the center with that level of lunacy, you are right. I'm not that guy.
Also, when they stop acting like consoomers that are mad that their waifus panty color was changed and so the sky is falling, I'll change my stance. I'm actually very receptive to genuine complaints. Maybe it's a little egotistical to diminish their issues with what they call censorship, but these same people are the ones going around calling everything DEI and woke in an attempt to do exactly that.
I don't want a fan fiction including the "spirit" of the original script.
I want the original script with as few changes as explicitly possible. The fact that white people in California are rewriting Asian games (art) to make them "better" doesnt become acceptable just because they tried to "replicate the original spirit".
Just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ translate the game. That's the job. They are not writers. What they are doing is explicitly erasing the works of People of Color and replacing them with a lower quality American version that makes white people on twitter feel better.
Also in this long ass rant you once again referred to those who disagree with you as virgins several times once again.
Do you think the women you've slept with are trophy like achievements or are you just doing it because it's the go to form of childish bullying across all school playgrounds?
Because seriously dude. Not everyone who watches japanese cartoons is a virgin and in some cases many are Asexual.
Edit: Like you could really cut down your argument to a much more succinct and readable level by condensing it to this:
"There are creepy pedophiles who ostensibly share a small part of one of your opinions so you are now a pedophile and also a virgin. I however and a mega smart adult with responsibilities who doesn't have time to care about stupid things like this. The fact that I'm here aggressively insulting people and engaging in it is irrelevant. Maybe someday when you're as smart and trustworthy as me you'll be as successful with women as I am. Now It may sound hypocritical that I consider women to be trophies that prove my success as a man but you really must understand I have had sex with women so I'm able to make these calls."
I personally don't want machine translated scripts either, so we're at an impasse. A lot of games were translated in such a way in the 90s, and they were almost universally panned as bad scripts. We are living in a golden era.
I guarantee you no one is micro-analyzing the localization to the degree that the anti-localization haters do, nor is anyone deriving personal self-worth from it. I think that if your side didn't attach their worth to these games, then maybe they wouldn't be so upset over every little change, usually intended for the sole purpose of creating a good localization for the target audience.
I never said anything about my personal life, but I will tell you, that even as a kid watching things like Ranma and such with a lot of nudity, I thought it was fun and neat, but I mean, I'm not going to throw a fit if the new Netflix remake isn't 1:1. I don't wanna smut shame, but maybe people should be looking towards actual smut and not the JRPG genre that is trying to *say* something for their fix.
No, I did not call all of you virgins. In fact, I never mentioned the word til you brought it up, but if we're going to state an arbitrary figure, maybe 90%. Maybe you're in one of the 10% and that will make you happy.
I think we have a lot of anime fans discovering jrpgs and they want the same sensibilities they developed, where women are often just objects, to be pushed to the degree they're accustomed to in the stuff they decide to watch. There are series for that, but this game is obviously trying to say something. It's not always about the player's titillation, at least not in their nether regions.
Sorry for my "long-ass rant". I just didn't want you to misunderstand me. I don't think asexuals would care too much that the female warrior in Dragon Quest III has short-shorts now, but what do I know?
Edit: Nah, I'm saying that that's usually the extent of it. This is what were supposed to be so outraged about. The original Japanese script looks like it's being well-represented in English, so I don't even know why they're here. I'm not even sure they do.
Edit 2: I think you're hearing what you want to hear, like when you see a perfectly good English translation and throw a fit. Maybe if you would just read the text on the page and not embellish based on your agenda and desire to be perpetually outraged, you might just enjoy things for what they are. I can't help you.
TLDR; If your movement wants to be seen as more than basic, then you're going to need criticisms that extend beyond pixels having more coverage as world-ending, and it would help if you guys would put in the hard work to learn the language if you care that much. It might also be elucidating about how you're all being played like fiddles by outrage manufacturers over the minute differences in the scripts.
Anyway if this person is involved in this I suppose I have them to thank for naming the old man who fights you in the story a Demo as in democrat. There's no such thing as democrats in this games world! If she is responsible for this I think she should shove off.
Nobody has made any claims about censorship of female characters or anything in this game, why are you trying to muddy the waters of this discussion? The issue is with the quality of the localization and the people responsible for it. Nice try with the red herrings.
