I tried turning it all the way up. Still very quiet. Audio in general is poor quality.

Its not the first time I've had this issue (zone of the enders has something very similar) but none of the old fixes seem to work here; In fact no ammount of messing around in the settings seem to have any effect.

Default master volume was at 50% for me, when I turned it up to 100% it sounded just fine.

It's poor quality because the game ignores audio equalizer as well.

I'm VERY disappointed they didn't fix this. It doesn't help that a lot of people think the solution is to crank the volume all the way up.

The game has incredible bombastic soundtrack but it feels like it's coming out of a 3DS speaker, it's awful.

At the suggestion of someone in another topic like this for the demo, try downloading FxSound and running that while fiddling with the settings till you get something that sounds right. Worked for me in this case.

FxSound is an equalizer, the game ignores equalizer for a lot of people.

Can confirm that FxSound had no effect for me.

I am going to assume simply turning up "master volume" (it defaults to like 50%) doesn't help with people experiencing this issue?

nope

I did manage to get the FxSound fix to work somewhat
Had to manually set the game to use FxSound as if it was an audio device, and that fixed it.

I just download FxSound and the character voice ingame are loud and clear now
