Button mapping locked to Mouse and Keyboard?

So My Xbox controller works but the UI seems to lock to M+K button prompts on the UI. Anyone else having this issue or know a fix? Sorry if this is widely known and I am just dumb for not seeing a thread.

Found a fix. Go into system settings and at the bottom there is a setting where you can change the button prompt notation/button icons. At default its set to auto, and that is the main problem. With it being set to auto, thats where I find that it gets stuck at MK prompts. Switching it to a fixed button prompt fixed it for me. I forget which setting is for xbox cause I had to guess and check but the first few are playstation prompts.

ok I found a fix that worked for me. I set button display settings in the game system settings to type 3 button display. I disabled steam controller input then restarted the computer and it is now fixed and I can even switch freely between k+m and xbox and it works.

I noticed that every time the steam overlay shows up to enter some text, all the icons get stuck on keyboard/mouse. I think disabling steam input fixed it though. Playing on big picture.

The newest build of MetaphorFix [github.com] has a .ini setting for "Force Gamepad Icons" which fixed this issue for me entirely.

After you come back from Alt-Tabbing, just click in the game's screen. Then, when you use the gamepad, button prompts should change
