I don't remember what was in the stores, but there were definitely some MP restoring items in chests.

Nah you have one tab for healing or removing debuffs, the 2nd tab page was for mana stuff. At least thats how it was for me when you meet that first peddler in the mines

Starting with Persona 4 on PS2, Atlus have kept this as a design ethos. MP is intentionally scarce by design, as the intent is to ration it out as you complete dungeons. To be optimal, you can complete a dungeon in one day, alternatively you can take several trips which is easier but less efficient.

There are some limited MP items for sale by various vendors IIRC, but they are a lot more expensive than HP items. You also get some as items on the map too.

However they have given us a nice solution/workaround in this one: if MC is the Mage archetype then stunning enemies (or defeating weak ones) in overworld combat will restore 1MP for the entire party per enemy. So if you wanted to, you could just farm weak mobs to restore your MP gauge, no problem.

It's also worth noting that, after a certain point, you can change your Archetype at any time through the Equipment menu. I will often swap to Mage or Healer when I need them, then swap back before I start combat.

Lastly there will be more options as the game progresses. I noticed that Wizard (2nd tier of Mage) has a passive at Rank 11 called 'Shield Blessing', which "recovers a significant amount of MP" for every turn the character has a stat buff in combat.

In the caves, which is pretty early on, the only options you really have are the consumables you've already picked up, and the Mage's Hero Passive.

Assuming you have unlocked the mage in akademia for that person, just go to the equipment menu and switch to Mage.
