Normal to be under leveled?
Just wondering in your experience is it normal to be 5 or so levels under the boss' you fight?

I am past the first tournament trail and about 10 days from an infiltration mission and I have noticed since arriving to Martira when I go on bounties or main story missions with bosses I am always about 5 levels behind the curve.

All my party is about level 30 and going into a bounty dungeon I got from Brilehaven the boss was 35 and this is extremely difficult at times even on normal as there are not many stage 2 archtypes unlocked at this stage and the times I had a chance to grind them the content was too hard to switch and level a new archtype.

Not saying the game is too difficult but I have used most of my days till X fairly well on side quests and levelling royal virtues that I don't really get a chance to level more archtypes until very recently and still I can only level 1-2 at a time max at some easier bounty area at best.

Also a lot of the tips that are given by the shady guy for certain places rely on a composition I can't have known before and have by chance not levelled. I just realised like a fool when levelling a new archtype if you don't buy a weapon for them you are useless.

Went off topic a bit and described some issues I face as a result of being under levelled and wondered if the journey is expected or did I somehow not focus on levelling as much as I should have and did too many royal virtue events.

Honestly I found myself to be slightly overleveled, and not without grinding excessively. I simply fought everything that was in my pathway save for one exception and wound up being able to field-crush most of the lower-weight monsters in every Deadline Dungeon. The game does sort of feel like it was balanced around doing all the sidequests before taking on main quest areas, at least to me.

Most of the time when you get a new Archetype, you'll either find a weapon in a nearby dungeon (Knives for Faker show up in Martira's dungeon and Mimic-Land) or the shop will start selling decent-ish neutral grades. I think the sole exception to this is Summoner for some odd reason, that class simply never had weapons available for a while.

Also I'm going to guess the one you tried to fight was either in the Tower (Towers are always going to be a pain, trust me) or against Fatolich And Friend (Because your only Dark resist is weak to Lighting, and guess what the Chimera spams?). Both of those are likely going to be surprises if you beeline straight for them, yeah.
no, its easy to grind enemies to overlevel thanks to real time battle

If I recall it was the final boss in the dungeon for the Grius dagger quest that I had to abandon and come back later. I lowered the difficulty one step and did a few other quests but they were painfully easy and not the experience I am after.

I am just entering the Dragon Temple and will see how I go on increased difficulty and compare my level to the next major boss but it feels like sometimes you are just a couple of pieces of armor or weapons on half your squad from being significantly stronger. Good call on the weapons, I did not buy a new one and tried to level new archtypes with the basic weapon that lead to some issues.

Thanks for the advice
I played Persona 5, 5R before.
Metaphor is much more grindy than P5 but gives more free time to grind.
So, don't be shy or time reserving. Just grind.
If you fight as much as P5, often would be underleveled.
As long as you're able to beat the enemies you're coming across, it's not really a problem is it? Common game design sense expects that you'll regularly be challenged by the obstacles a game puts in front of you after all lol
