It's really hard to say without first playing Persona and SMT first.

+ Press Turn is better than One More, I'll die on this hill.
+ Followers/Social Links rank up automatically when spending time, no Dating Sim for progress.
+ Setting allows for more worldbuilding and creative freedom than tying everything to Tokyo.
+ Protagonist :mtp_captain: dying does not kick you to a reload instantly (SMT4 rules)
+ Speaking of, lots of save points/clearly marked boss doors.
+ Some enemies behave differently than simply element swaps (Goborns and casters, Griffins and front-row) which could be interesting down the line in future titles.

- Protagonist :mtp_captain: can talk but they don't go all-in making Protagonist a 'character'.
- Gallica :mtp_gallica: will never shut up in battle unless everyone is 100%.
- Protagonist :mtp_captain: makes noises every time he starts dash/attacks. Every time.
- The game's themes are about as subtle as a piano dropped from a skyscraper.
- No demon/monster variety, you see palette swaps before second Deadline Story and they don't stop at 2.
- Any dungeon outside of Deadline Story is basically a hallway simulator.
- Party member acquisition is extremely slow.
- Lots of spaces where it feels like content might be cut, screams of remaster/rerelease in two years.
I agree! I like that game however your points are pretty valid. In building Dungeons in SMT 5 V sucked but in compassion they were much more interesting. Persona 5 R had great themed dungeons for the major bosses too which this game failed to do so far. It's mostly hallways and stairs. If they make a sequel I hope they make some changes.
Better than Persona 5? Not so far in my opinion. I'm 2 hours in and I'm not loving it like the Persona series. It's weird to see this type of game set in fantasy instead of in current Japan. I'm going to give it a while and see what I think.

I have zero connection to these characters like I do the cast of Persona.

whilst the game is in now way as good as persona 5, and the characters definitely fall short, I feel like you just want to hang around with school children

Only done like 10 hours persona 5 just defeated the first boss/zone. I find the atmosphere a lot better in persona 5. Though I thought the beginning of this game was also pretty good.

The Kamoshida arc in P5 is definitely the high point of the game. Conversely, the Martira arc in Metaphor is probably the highest point in the game.

Though the gap between arcs in Metaphor is MUCH lower than it was in P5. If I had to play through the worst arc in Metaphor and P5, I'd vastly prefer Metaphor's cathedral over P5's Okumura.

I love P5, I can't get into this game for the life of me. It's so tedious and silly.
Stop asking others for your own opinion.
Try a demo and decide afterwards.
Is it better? It depends on your personal taste. You might like it, you might don't.

Be glad that demo's returned they help a lot to make a decision.
