So... Mage Arcetype thoughts?
Anyone else feel like it was absolutely shafted in this game? I went mage thinking 'Oh it's one of the big three classes in RPGs it has to be good' but just to find Warlock and Elemental locked until the last month of the game due to it being tied to Gallica and being stuck to single target moderate damage spells for half the game and on top of that the Masked Dancer who is just mage but better in every way? xD

The mage is invaluable for gaining press turns and with the combo skills you can deal crazy damage. Even with those last classes locked till later game you DO get strong magic from other classes you can move over to the mage class, like light and wind. My magic MC was out damaging everyone but the final party member for the entire game.

SMT adjacent games and SMT games require exploiting the press turn system, which makes mage and magic a MUST. At least on anything outside easy, or normal on some of the more modern games. Endgame will wreck you if you can't exploit it and have multiple types of damage. Dancer give weakness skills plus magic combo attacks can one shot bosses.
Quick shoutout to the MC's mage overworld passive being a hard carry in early dungeons.

More generally though, as above said it gives access to a lot of weaknesses in one skillset which is very valuable, something the Masked Dancer definitely doesn't do; it only has access to Fire, and needs to sacrifice its accessory slot for anything else. Also Mage's MP recovery skill is significantly stronger than Dancer's, it just needs you to have a buff (which you will in any longer fight, and can be passively provided in short fights by several classes' weapons). Mage has access to both AOE and heavy damage attacks with Synthesis. Both Mage and Wizard are also unlocked significantly earlier than Masked Dancer.
very very good early game, specifically for MP restoring mid dungeon and for pressturn advantage abuse (even if it doesnt deal amazing dmg mid game this is still very powerful)

and late game while there are better options for sure, its specific passives and stuff make it very good hybrid for other archetypes and its inheritable spells can add additional elemtnal coverage on other archetypes as well, for example giving Seeker Ice can help cover its fire weakness.

or giving an archetype with very good fusion attacks the wizard apssive that increases their dmg and accuracy.

many possabilities and they begin at the very start of the game.
The Mage archetype is absolutely one of the strongest in the game, but it is super strong early and super strong late and lackluster in the middle because of how long it takes to unlock the advanced classes.

It is timelocked I think on purpose because of how strong its potential is.

It's my first playthrough and i got my MC to 99 magic just to find out that some of the prince skills need strength and that those now just suck, because i have only like 22 strength xD

those skills actually scale off of whichever stat is higher, the description is false code wise.

if you have 99 magic and 22 strength they will scale off magic. not strength.
