SMT adjacent games and SMT games require exploiting the press turn system, which makes mage and magic a MUST. At least on anything outside easy, or normal on some of the more modern games. Endgame will wreck you if you can't exploit it and have multiple types of damage. Dancer give weakness skills plus magic combo attacks can one shot bosses.
More generally though, as above said it gives access to a lot of weaknesses in one skillset which is very valuable, something the Masked Dancer definitely doesn't do; it only has access to Fire, and needs to sacrifice its accessory slot for anything else. Also Mage's MP recovery skill is significantly stronger than Dancer's, it just needs you to have a buff (which you will in any longer fight, and can be passively provided in short fights by several classes' weapons). Mage has access to both AOE and heavy damage attacks with Synthesis. Both Mage and Wizard are also unlocked significantly earlier than Masked Dancer.
and late game while there are better options for sure, its specific passives and stuff make it very good hybrid for other archetypes and its inheritable spells can add additional elemtnal coverage on other archetypes as well, for example giving Seeker Ice can help cover its fire weakness.
or giving an archetype with very good fusion attacks the wizard apssive that increases their dmg and accuracy.
many possabilities and they begin at the very start of the game.
It is timelocked I think on purpose because of how strong its potential is.
It's my first playthrough and i got my MC to 99 magic just to find out that some of the prince skills need strength and that those now just suck, because i have only like 22 strength xD
if you have 99 magic and 22 strength they will scale off magic. not strength.
