Spoilers: ice dragon-HELP!
I am fighting an ice dragon, I've lost 5 times (got to phase 2) with different strategies, start running out of MP. After defeat I only seem to the have option to go back to the gauntlet runner. But really need to grind for better archetypes/levelling. Is there a way to do this or is this a skill issue on my part!

It doesn't have any physical immunities, so using your newest party member will help keep some consistent damage going. You need to make sure that you have some way of clearing out it's buffs as dragons have the tendencies to pump their Attack stats constantly if left unchecked. Berserker has a Synthesis that allows it to inflict a Strike weakness which can help matters, Commander line can offer Marakukaja at base, you can try to abuse Faker for debuffs...

One other thing to consider is purposefully triggering Quartz Wall by using your very last action on a weak magic attack. It only Nulls instead of Reflects, and more often than not the Dragon will prioritize reapplying the buff to consume one Press Turn. Once you get to final phase, Quartz Wall stops being an issue so Fire can work then.

Make sure to apply Frostbite resistance/Patra support to your main damage dealers/Synthesis supports.
I'll try this, yeah i made more progress using general, my fakers level 1 haha

It's a rough wakeup moment for sure and an awful mean chokepoint, but it's still possible. Either make sure you can keep it's Attack under control or do something to mitigate it (Raise your Defense or lower it's Accuracy, Shield Arts off a Knight on spare turns). Unfortunately this is the part of the game where getting Faker/Trickster skills is going to be pretty hard-required. At least for Dekaja access, though Trickster gets Debilitate...

If you're not on Regicide, there's no shame in dropping the difficulty just for this fight and raising it up anew if you're on Hard so long as you don't drop to Storyteller (which I think you can't unless you started Storyteller). The game does kind of get stingy about it since it denies you the chance to at least hit the shops to stock up on some items. Honestly, if you've got items, use them. Binding Ropes, Torpor, Corrosive Acid, whatever can help stifle the dragon a bit. This is mostly a physical fight and doing whatever you can to keep the Berserker kicking helps out immensely. Just be careful of the occasional Light attack (if you got it earlier, you can actually take a particular treasure from the Dragon Temple to the Chapel and get it turned into a set of armor that can Resist Dark or Resist Light, and the option to switch between the two at said chapel). Frostbite can probably be ignored if it strikes a support like your healer but you really want to keep it off your main damage dealers at all costs.

Another thing you can try is keeping a Knight-tree unit in backline with Proclamations. It's probably still gonna hurt like heck, but it might buy a turn at least so long as the Knight can endure it. Most of the time I wind up using Hulkenburg or Heismay (but only super lategame for R E A S O N S) as a defensive support like that for bosses. General can also help, though I'd give up on FFT since Quartz Wall's gonna be up for 2/3rds of the fight.
I tried again last night got so close, my current strategy is to use 3 mages and a summoner with fake rogue. So I max out the turns at the beginning and try to nuke it. Then it pretty much destroys me second half haha

Yeah, this is a Physical DPS fight most of the fight. Keep trying, and if you gotta downrank the difficulty, no shame in it.
Haha I feel easy mode may need to be selected!
I did without lowering the difficulty! Now 10 days, 10 days! Thanks for all the pointers.

The next event that comes through shouldn't be that bad in comparison since now you have some time to train. Just make sure you have no weaknesses to Fire/Ice/Thunder/Wind and you can basically stomp.

But seriously, start leveling Faker on some support users, Dekaja's a big deal and Trickster gives really good debuff support.

Dually noted :)
I'm in the final portion of the game now, 29 days left.. Gosh these dragons are so op! Level 70 against my meager level 50s haha
Yeah it's best to finish the Skyrunner Avatar and get to Louis before taking on the dragons. The real final dungeon doesn't pop up till the very last day.
