I am already pretty pissed at the game.
Just got to the necromancer boss and the amount of damage he pulls for 3 characters to handle is insane. It almost seems like I need a perfect build to actually beat him. And, preferrably, maxed 'em out for this. Also Story difficulty.

Any advice on how to proceed?

Hmm, not sure if you did anything to prep so I will just make a list. If you already have that set then please ignore that advice.

He is weak to light so focus on that.

Use Hulkenberg Knight's Proclamation to avoid certain multi hit attacks.

Set your character as the Healer Archtype and use him to focus on keeping people alive or do light damage when no one needs to be healed.

As the fight goes on you will get into rhythm of when the boss will be doing a big attack, in which case have everyone guard it. Guarding it blocks weakness and debuffs.

If all fails, you may as well hit up the enemies on the lower levels to grind up.

Luckily with the game equipment at that stage really doesn't matter a whole lot. It really counts to when to attack, guard, and heal. I wish you luck and hope that you get past the boss to see more of the game.

Your healer MC solos the boss while Hulkenberg tanks and warrior Strohl kills the adds.

Pretty straight forward.

one more tip, theres an item you can get from a chest in the dungeon which gives the ablity to cast light spell. 2 light attack should make the fight very easy.

You're just really bad at this game. You don't need anywhere near a perfect build. Maybe go back to the megablocks, they're probably more your speed.

Yeah, you're right. Had to go on easy mode, but only then I figured out about the items I had with additional skills. But I don't really care if I am bad at the game or not. Didn't expect the game to be so challenging in the beginning. Expected more of a P5R type of difficulty, but I've been told it's more like SMT in this regard.

You can finish the fight in a few rounds on Hard if you have Tarukaja and a few Corrosive Acids.

Fighter Strohl, Healer MC, and Monk Hylkenberg:
Toss corrosive acid on Boss/Buff Strohl with Tarukaja at the start using 'extra actions' from Hama spells cast by two chars. Whenever Strohl has two actions he should use Bamboo Cutter every single time on the boss. Destroy the adds using Hylkenberg and MC while Strohl hard-focus the boss.

The nice addition is that Monk Hylkenberg helps with a closely upcoming fight too. Bamboo Cutter does wonders as well.

One tip I haven't seen anyone mention: Make sure you're moving folks to the backline any time they don't need to be dealing non-spelldamage. The defensive bonus for being in the back row is Substantial compared to many other games with similar mechanics. It is very much not a mechanic one should be ignoring during the course of a battle.

Swapping from Front or Back row is a free action, so don't hesitate to use it to keep your Tank healthier, while moving your melee damage dealer up front when you need to (as the melee damage cut is substantial in the back row as well).
