But I haven't read Stormlight Archive.
He's fighting for equality for the darkeyes. He even asks Dalinar to help him achieve it.
Yeah, I think they were a little inspired by it and I would bet 100 bucks that some of the writers read his work (Stormlight is after all published in Japanese and so many other languages) but it's unique enough that I'm really interested to see where it is all going. Taking inspiration from other works is a very valid way to spice up your own stories.
Agreed. Also: It makes total sense from what he experienced during his childhood. Kal is the definition of "main character being stuck in a small village during his childhood and then experiences the true world later on". He gets the wake-up call he was bound to get during his time at Araman's and then Sadea's camp only to find that all people are different and all sides have their good/bad people .... as it is in reality ;-)
So yeah, he's very well written because his progression makes total sense.
Mate, why do you even fall for this bait? :-D Sanderson is objectively speaking commericially and critically succesful and you don't have to prove anything by listing what (good) fantasy series you have read besides to come to this conclusion yourself.
It's okay to not like an author personally but everyone who barges into a forum, hating on an author just because should not be indulged.
By the way I really don't like Dune :-D haha ... it just wasn't for me.
Song of I&F I loved way more than I expected. Sanderson is more or less the only high fantasy author I currently read. It seems that I'm in my "urban fantasy"/"more politics and less fantasy"-phase at the moment. I think I'm into Stormlight regardless because it's really easy to read (which was Sanderson's intention) while providing more than enough worldbuilding and depth to sink my teeth into.
