an election started from royal magic cast from the death of a king, the main character being one of the many people who are fighting for the throne, not only for power and change but for a secret operation noone knows about behind the scenes.
its rather unique.
That being said, I've played nearly 18 hours and was completely addicted to this demo. I enjoy it much more than any Persona game, but the plot and story feel a bit muddy so far. The king is killed and we're desperately trying to save the prince by killing the man who cursed him. BUT.. is it for the sake of helping the Prince take his rightful place as king?
Presumably yes, but then why are WE competing to become king? The angelic voice talking to us very specifically mentioned that we're the ones gaining support of the people and that we are becoming worthy of being king by amassing followers.
Personally, I just want to save the prince, I don't want to become king.
(I'm certain this will be addressed in the full game, just saying this element feels muddy in the demo specifically)
Also, characters keep saying that they will kill Louis when we reach him, but we all just saw what happens to anyone that interferes with this competition of kingly candidacy. When characters say that, I'm left thinking, "What the F_uck are you talking about? You literally can not. We just saw what happens, the dead king's decree will freeze you, and you will have your throat slit. Also RIP Alces". It feels like a line they thoughtlessly recorded and threw in for some cool badass flavor, but it doesn't fit in this context. It makes the characters sound more dumb than cool.
My gripes are more personal and nitpicks. I think the demo is good and the full game will probably be great, especially for people who don't obsess over small atmosphere details or mind tropes being central to the plot.
Bro, I think you’re misunderstanding something here.
I'm not making this game. In fact, I'm not even making money from it. There’s no such thing as "hurting your feelings." Maybe it’s yours, since you’re the first person to talk about "hurting feelings". Bruh.
While the graphics are not stellar, the artwork is great and the overall impression very good. I really dig the music, especially the more weirder tracks like the victory theme. The English voice actors do a fine job and I see no point in switching to Japanese but maybe for a 2nd playthrough in the future.
I really welcome the change to the free Archetype selection, leaving you the option to play with your favourite party members. The hybrid combat system is also a nice change, without the need to go through victory screens for every whimsical fight, improves the pace, especially when it comes to later grind (if needed/wanted).
I'm looking forward to Thursday and hope they bring performance to the standard of their previous titles.
