If you have an RTX GPU, I recommend using DLDSR over the in-game resolution slider
You can enable it in the NVIDIA control panel. I've got mine set to 2.25x DL (just make sure you don't pick the legacy mode). After that, you simply select the resolution in-game.

In my experience it not only reduces shimmer, but it also improves the performance. You can combine it with the in-game resolution slider if there is performance headroom.

This is on an RTX 4070 with a native resolution of 3440x1440. In-game resolution slider set to 100%, and the actual resolution selected with DLDSR.

I get better performance and less shimmer compared to native res + 175% in-game resolution slider.

I wish they would just implement DLSS; that would most likely fix the image quality issues, such as the shimmer, especially on lower end rigs.

Does it make the run blur better? I really wish you could turn that off.

Some people won't be able to use DSR or DLDSR unfortunately. I can't for example, because it can't be used alongside DSC.

Monitors are too high resolution and refresh rate for DSR to work when using them.

No, but that doesn't personally bother me.
