The systems are Persona-like (time management, social links, turn-based combat) but it isn't in the same narrative universe.

Yeah, I'm fairly certain that the costumes are just fan service and not 'canonical'. That being said, there could be a twist later in the game that links the universe of Persona with Metaphor, but I HIGHLY doubt it.

Think of it like this, Persona like in the free time moments, while dungeon crawling is more like SMT, mixing them together and you get something a bit more unique then your average smt or persona game, it has nothing to do with either series so nothing really related to persona story wise, and yes the main character is a he with his own voice, I'm sure will learn more of his past once the full game is released.

thats just cosmetics, sorta like how there is p5 content in the p3 remake, its not canon its just a thing.
