Low audio issues on PC? Try FxSound!
For anyone whose game audio is unusually low, especially with headphones,
here's something you can try that worked for me:

  1. First and foremost, have the game closed, just in case (or not, up to you)
  2. Search up (or click on) FxSound[fxsound.com]
    • Download and open up FxSound (it is very simple to use)
    • There are two dropdown menus:
left is the sound preset, right is output device
    • Select your preferred output device
      (FxSound will automatically take control)
    • Select, test, and then choose your preferred sound preset
(you can edit and/or select another sound preset whenever you want)
  3. Open up Metaphor: ReFantazio
    • Go to System → Settings → Audio Settings → Audio Output
    • Select the audio device that you had FxSound take control of,
which is labeled as FxSound Speakers (FxSound Audio Enhancer) in-game

Done!
That should help solve the low game audio issue.

The sound preset that I use is Gaming, but I enhanced Clarity from 3 to 5 and Base Boost from 3 to 5. Though, feel free to test out, edit, and use whichever sound preset sounds best to you, and don't forget to save new presets that you make.

Hope this works out for everyone else!

Edit: You can also try out MetaphorFix, a fix that comes with many useful options including overriding the game's master volume. Simply extract the contents of the latest release zip into the game's folder, edit the MetaphorFix.ini file, and then save your changes. That's it! Personally, I still use FxSound because of the extra base boost and sound options it comes with and haven't overrode the game's master volume with MetaphorFix, but the choice is yours. Here's the link: github.com/Lyall/MetaphorFix

Edit #2: ⁂Official patch notes
The latest patch as of October 18th has made adjustments to the game's audio volume balance. It should hopefully bring the game's volume to normal levels. Although this patch made raising the volume on headphones to max unnecessary,
I can't help feeling that the game sounds flat, mainly in comparison to playing it while using FxSound. I swear, I'm not sponsored! It's just... base is life, ya know?

Thanks, that did the trick for me. Still a little pissed I had to download ♥♥♥♥ ware to add basic functionality to the game, though. Really working hard to earn that $70, guys. Glad to see that quality shining through!

Yeah, it's too bad this audio issue is even a thing; hopefully it's fixed on launch.
I'm glad this worked out for you. To be honest, I'm actually liking using FxSound. Lol

Unfortunately, I wouldn't count on it ever being fixed. I remember with P5 back on PS4 there was a bizarre issue where the edges of the screen would get cut off if the game didn't like your television. Normally basic system settings would fix that, but the game was designed to completely override those with no solution beyond playing in SD. That was a platform they actually knew how to develop on, Nevermind the PC version of P4 missing basic settings, or them actually forgetting to include Denuvo in Etrian Odyssey when it first launched.

The ticket to the circus is just part of the purchase price, I'm afraid.

Wow thanks, worked perfectly. Incredible how they're unable to program such simple things...

Master Audio is set by default to like 50%. Just go change it in-game to 100%.

Everyone with low sound issues already has that set to 100% + equalizers (like FXsound) don't work.

If fixing the audio issue was as simple as setting the master audio from 50% to 100%, then I wouldn't have spent any time on creating this guide. If only it was that easy, though.

Like you've said, I definitely had my master audio set to 100%. However, in my experience, FxSound completely fixed this problem, so I can't say I agree with you saying equalizers don't work.

To clarify again, I use headphones, and switching the audio device in the game's sound settings from FxSound Speaker (FxSound Audio Enhancers) back to my Razer BlackShark V2 Pro headphones brings the audio back down.

FxSound does a decently good job on enhancing audio. Thanks to it, while playing the demo, I could set the volume dial on my headphones on the halfway mark instead of having it turned all the way up as I did before using it.

It's not a matter of agreeing or not, this isn't a debate I'm trying to win. Sound equalizer isn't working for me and it's just this game that has this issue. I've been gaming on pc for more than 10 years and this has never happened not even once.
The audio is lacking punch and bass as a result.

Happy to report this worked for me, I tinkered with FXSound settings further together with the game's audio settings and found my preference. Took about 5 minutes of tinkering, thank you for the suggestion, this made me enjoy the game even more as it was meant to be.

You're seemingly frustrated, understandably, but I wasn't trying to argue. Honestly, I only replied because you said equalizers don't work and so I gave my experience on this equalizer working. If you had said "equalizers don't work for me," then I honestly wouldn't have said anything about it because that's your experience with it.

Regardless, hope things work out for you and this game gets patched soon.

I care a lot about audio and this game has incredible soundtrack so yeah I'm frustrated.

I don't even care if there's not AA but I want the usual sound quality.

I played the demo for 11 hours, it won't stop me from playing but it's disappointing.

Ok, this works like a charm. At least we have a roundabout while Atlus fix it.
