Localization means the are adapting the game for other regions, you just slapping ♥♥♥♥ into Translate does not mean you localized it. And no, the CORE themes of the game deals with diversity and equality to all, and is HEAVILY against racism. LITERALLY in the first area you are judged for being Elda, and is advised to keep his guard up for said reasons. Various races get discriminated against, and its NOT because "localization", but thats a big part of the games themes.

Woke in the term is so thrown around these days that they have no idea what the ♥♥♥♥ woke even is now. I played the demo I saw the screenshots from these people and at this point I just believe there doing it to farm points instead of actually giving a ♥♥♥♥ about it.

you are wrong the people behind all of these examples in interviews were open about how they wanted to introduce Division Exclusion and Indoctrination into the work they created. Those are primary source evidence by the way! It does not help that these games and shows and movies are all garbage without Division Exclusion and Indoctrination. Those three words is what kills creative attractive characters for people to enjoy and replaces them with some characters that look like they have had one a too many big macs! When it comes to localization I do not care about it being literally one to one direct, but I do want the characters to be written with the authors intent and not by a out of touch women who needs to write every female as a girl boss talking down to men. just pointing out, DEI is part of the "woke" subject here. putting people who have little experience or care for the end product or games in general is WHY these are bad games. they are symbols before being games, so obviously the gameplay is going to be lacking. and the reason for that, is the people who are put in charge of directing or making the games.

just bringing up an example from Crunchy-roll as it comes to mind. that "Hi Guardian Spice" show or whatever (not sure if it even came out or not? didn't really care.) made explicit points to highlight WHO made it, not what it was, and it looked to be very low quality animation even by modern standards where everything is Cal Arts to save costs.

using your burger analogy as an example here, it would be like if two people made a burger for you, one person was a line cook with several years of experience, it may not be great, but it's passable. the other is someone with little to no experience cooking burgers but was hired to meet some arbitrary quota and makes an under-cooked burger.

the poor design you bring up is stemming from what people are complaining about when they say "Woke", it's style over substance, focusing on the WHO, not the product, or trying to create a message, and building a game to push it rather than something like Dead Rising for example, where it was a zombie hack and slash game with a motif criticizing the excesses of capitalism and its materialistic culture.

This whole thing is just embarrassing. Like, they just listed a bunch of games that were critical failures. Metacritic's aggregated scores aren't the best way to determine quality, but all of the above were given poor or middling scores by games reviewers.

Thing is, almost every major Japanese game this year has had some kind of "localization discourse," and it's entirely because people just keep comparing the final lines to whatever Google Translate spits out. Google hasn't gotten any better at this! It can't determine nuance, it can't keep characters consistent - it has absolutely no idea what instructions the Japanese voice actors were given in the booths (English lines often get rewritten based on the performance of the Japanese voice actor late in the process.)

But because people decided all who are actually authorities on the process of translation are part of an evil cabal, we have to deal with people pretending the Google Translate is the "original Japanese line."
