If you're on Steam Deck, I was able to get it working by:
1. navigate to your compatdata folder in your steam folder
2. find the folder that corresponds with the DEMO version of Metaphor (It'll be a ton of numbers, but if you look at the created date you should be able to narrow down which to choose
3. Find steamuser>AppData>Roaming>SEGA and copy the folder
4. Find the compatdata folder now for the RELEASE version of Metaphor (like step 2)
5. Paste in the copied folder and merge
6. Start Metaphor, then select New Game and you should get the pop up to transfer save data

Good luck hope this works for you too

I hope so, I'm having a blast right now on deck, but I would not want to start again.

yeah getting through entire prologue did take quite a while and i didn't think i really potentially missed out on much (for me doing it while pausing alot to do other stuff) was about 4 hours

I'm figuring this out right now. It doesn't automatically recognize the save data from the demo and I may need to copy it manually from one proton instance to another (those numbered compat folders).

I'm having the same issue. Let us know if you find a fix

Ok, so I finally found out the save data is in [Users>XXXX>AppData>Roaming>SEGA>METAPHOR>STEAM>######]

The demo save data will be save_demo####.sav

They appear to be in the same location for both versions of the game, so the main game is looking for these demo files. I have to go to the steam compatdata folders, find the folder for the demo, copy the files, find the folder for the full game install, paste them into the matching folder.

To add a bit to this, the demo's number in compatdata is 3130330 and the final release number is 2679460.
So as Hibachi said, you should copy the SEGA folder from
compatdata/3130330/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Application Data/SEGA/
to
compatdata/2679460/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Application Data/SEGA/

I had to delete the SEGA folder in Metaphor, turn off steam cloud backup saves, and replace the folder with the SEGA folder from the Metaphor compatadata tree.

Now I'm running into issues since I launched the game already and the prompt isn't showing. Not sure if I have to redownload the game or if there's a file I can delete where this value (having done the check already) is stored.

Ok, I did what lemon mentioned. I don't think I needed to disable cloud saves, but I smdid wipe the files in the retail folder and copy everything from the demo folder over. Then the prompt happened

Thanks! After deleting and copying over the whole folder and disabling cloud save, when I started the game it just said that it recognized my saves from the demo and I can carry on.
As long as this is the only Day 1 problem with the game I will be content :)

♥♥♥♥ me I guess for uninstalling the demo when installing the game.
Thank you all for the info. Disabling the cloud saves is what finally gave me the prompt to transfer my saves over. Going to finally play.... Tomorrow.

It worked for me too!

Thanks

I've turned off cloud saves and done this (with a re-installed demo), but I'm not getting an option to transfer save data in new game.

I can see that all my demo save files are in the game's folder, but no joy.
