Yes, you and the boy are different characters. It would end up being very confusing I think. If you want help picking a name for him, in English his default name is Will.

I don't know how important "the player" will be in the story. It could end up not being mentioned at all, or it could be like the game Baten Kaitos where the player is a spirit guiding the protag. Idk.

I can tell you that even as early as the demo it is mentioned. However, it's not like Baten Kaitos where the player's spirit is always there, at least not yet.

There is at least one mention of the player in the demo.

I think for it to have the intended impact, you really should make it your own name, but at the very least, don't make it the same name as the protagonist.
