Why won’t Atlus make a “cool” protagonist anymore??

I don’t want to diminish the VA’s work since they both (JP and ENG) did a great job… but this character doesn’t fit the world at all… I feel like I could meet someone like the Protag in San Francisco or something. I seriously can’t take him seriously as a formidable warrior. Even Joker is more intimidating a character. It seems like each protag is just getting wimpier and wimpier. We need a character like Yu Narukami again. Don’t get me wrong I loved persona 5 and 3 but I mean come on. The MC sounds and looks like a sword art online character

Probably would have been better to just go with a female protagonist this time around. I do agree, current protag is kind of..... a waste.

persona 3 main character is a quiet edgy kid who is only seen as cool because he doesnt really fear anything

persona 4 main character is a blank slate with a mixture of silly, pervy and cool traits.

persona 5 main character is probably the coolest but even then he can be quite dorky, wears fake classes just to try to look cool for example.

"cool" is subjective, but if anything I think they are all cool characters, even metaphors main character is really cool imo. he has values and traits I think are cool.

but to me personally being cool is more than a visual vibe, its a sorta general state of being decided by action and reaction. and thus a character being so discriminated against taking the stand to push back against society, overcome challenges one would deem impossible as well as remaining calm in face of impossible odds is cool to me.

Most games will often say a char is 18 just to get around legalaties in the west, you see it in alot of anime as well.

Or it could just be the SMT/Persona style as well. Not gonna lie though, main char in Metaphor could pass for a girl with a bit of a chest and slightly longer hair. Inb4 someone mods a female main char model just because they can.

What makes you think we like that?

This is clearly a Japanese thing, most JRPG main characters look like that when they go for an anime-style. An easy solution is to make customizable characters and ditch anime cutscenes.

If it were made for females it would probably have a female protagonist. I still don't understand why Atlus refuses to even give us the option to play as a woman.

I don't mind the MC in this game but I do think we deserve to get a Papa Nier-type character MC from Atlus in the future. Playing a feminine male trying to save his boywife prince is nice but I also want to play a beefy masculine dude sometimes

When I first played the demo, I actually laughed out loud because it looked like they made the main character the P3 protagonist and your first party member the P4 protagonist.
