in the same vein you have plenty of choices in this game to do the cool action, or just say something dumb, though i did notice there is a lot less "dumb" answers this time around
Weapons? Firearms? Nah son we throwing hands.
what makes more gay?
That aside, it strikes me as totally blatant that there are some aspects of this game that seem like outright fujoshi bait. Why, I haven't the slightest idea.
Female Protags scare him and he thinks they dont work as protagonists.
No matter how difficult the world he lives in is, a person who lived a sheltered life will never be a seasoned warrior at the get go.
I think its reasonable that Joker, a person that actively fought against an injustice and got severely punished for it, (in a story with a heavy theme about rebelling corruption) would have a more intimidating vibe then a kid that was sheltered in a hidden community and is most likely seeing the world and experiencing its severe hardships for the first time.
I think the Protags in these games are meant to be self inserts, so the more generic the character is, the better. (and if its a self-insert and your only going to have one gendered Protag then having the character share the same gender as your target audience is probably better for sales.)
Also at least for the persona games, the thing that makes the Protag special is the flexibility of his personality (hence why they have multiple personas). So having the character be a self insert actually makes sense thematically for the story.
They have a formula that works. Why should they change it? I would rather they have some repetitive aspects and do it well then try something and fail spectacularly. There are plenty of game studios that tired to change a working formula and not only fail to gain a new audience, but also upset the old fans. The more they repeat some things like a similar Protag and game-play mechanic, the more effort they can put into other aspects like the rest of the story. and also the more you repeat the faster you can make the games. Why take such a risk when they can already succeed with much less effort needed.
I never played the Original persona 3 that had a female Protag option, but i assume even if they did have a female one she would also end up being pretty similar (a cool quite type, since its the easiest base for a self insert character.) Unless they are going to make the character have a much bigger personality and more directly affect the plot, I don't see why having a female Protag would really change much.
So what is Griffith in Berserk then?
