Thomas More's "Utopia"
So, I wasn't aware of this when I started playing the game but for some reason I decided to google this "more" guy because something told me his name might not've been chosen randomly. Lo and behold, there was a guy named "Saint Thomas More" and he wrote a book called "Utopia," and the protagonist's book, written by More, and is described as a "Utopia" by Strolh around the time you learn his name. Seems like not a big coincidence.

Though, aside from what I read on Wikipedia ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utopia_(book) ), I know nothing about this book so I can't really comment on the connection. However, there are some departures that I thought were interesting.

Granted, I'm not all that far into the game so we might find these are mentioned, but for now I'll consider them departures.

Firstly is that in the original Utopia, they had slaves and this was the punishment for committing crimes. The second is that Utopians have a variety of religions, but shun atheism. Finally, wives are subject to their husbands.

Anyway, since I hadn't seen a discussion on this, I thought I'd start one. Maybe someone here has read Utopia and can point out more references in the game to the book? Or maybe references to Saint Thomas More and "Utopia" are superficial and more in service of the themes that director Hashino wanted to discuss. Thoughts?

The continent is literally shaped exactly the same as the one on the cover of the book. Any similarities -and differences- are surely intentional.
That said I'm both not far in and haven't read the book so idk the relation myself.

It's not just More. There's a reason the cat is called Plateau (see The Republic).
