Because most teens already have a conceptual grasp of life and death, right and wrong, and you aren't exactly being shown a baby being brutally murdered in your face. Offscreen deaths are more left to your imagination than anything else so that's on the individual to how vivid that imagine what could have happened off-screen.

Most teens have read and seen worst in actual Teen rated horror books and manga and TV tbh growing up. You're just likely more sheltered than most given how much power censorship boards have been given more power over the past decade and some change.

Surely you can't just ignore the mass shootings that occur though. Heartbreaking to hear about them, especially at schools.
