Most of the enemies can be defeated if you know what you are fighting, and also, ambushing them. If you let them ambush you, it can be really difficult to survive.
Just keep going and enjoy.
In reality what you need to do is exploit enemies weakens at which point even if they are few levels above you it wont matter. In most cases you will want to have your party setup in such a way that you can end the fight within 1-2 turns as most enemies can hit pretty hard and exploit your own weaknesses. This is of course when we are talking about normal enemies and not bosses which will take longer than that.
Although in the mines, you can kill everything there.
it's another way to check that it's either youre underleveled or your equipment is not up to date. or youre not using the right tactics
Maybe the problem is that the main character is my mage and has piss poor "break" damage? Is that a mechanic in this game? That some archetypes have a superior ability to stun enemies on the field map for combat? Because even running in circles for 2 minutes smacking the worm or ambushing them I've only ever gotten them down to half a "break" meter.
yeah maybe that is the problem. Mage is great if there are lot of enemies around because it has an AOE attack but the damage is relatively small compare to other archetypes and it definitely lacks mobility .
