How do you keep controller buttons from changing to keyboard

As the title says how do you keep your buttons from changing from controller to keyboard. I just started playing the game however the game keeps randomly changing my button layout from Controller to Keyboard and it is making it really hard to understand how to play. Anyone know how to fix this?

lololololol yea same problem here too so i been using mouse for battles and xbone wired controller for everything else, they gotta patch it soonish i would assume?

its especially super confusing the amount of shortcuts and like every single button in your controller is literally mapped to something

I also noticed it is happening when i used the Onsceen Keyboard when using Gamepad. After that the game will not auto change to Gamepad Symbols anymore. Pretty annoying since you got to restart the game everytime you need to use the onscreen keyboard.

disable steam input or use special K
Special K specifically has fixes built in for this.

I ran into this initially, and I figured out an easier way to deal with it. The reason it's happening has to do with the virtual keyboard popping for entering player name and later MC name, and then the game isn't swapping back to controller prompts. All you need to do is save, exit, relaunch, and it's fixed and won't happen again presuming the virtual keyboard doesn't launch for another reason later on.

The newest build of MetaphorFix [github.com] has a .ini setting for "Force Gamepad Icons" which fixed this issue for me entirely.
