Why is this game so ugly?
Stylized graphics can look wonderful. This ain it bro.

The texturing work here especially is absolutely horrible. Among the worst I have ever seen. for the "anime" look. They literally used photo-based textures and just filtered them in photoshop with "paint doubs". They are also low resolution. I cant believe a game that is know for the "style" of persona is this ugly. Also it runs like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥? The UI is going for the classic Persona look, which is fine but holy crap what a mess the overall presentation is. They just added the weirdest color filters on top of the whole shait and called it a day. Ugh.

Why is <inserts subjective phenomenon entirely localised in his brain>?

Some people seem to have either no idea how a conversation works, or just have the weird need to be dishonest.

You're setting yourself up to fail either way.

The game is objectively ugly in multiple areas. Maybe if atlus had a bigger budget they'd add a smidge of aa

It was in development for 8 years too, so it's technically last gen. I like the art style and such, but I can see what you mean.

I mean.. it's a PS4 cross-gen title. I get the feeling it was also developed with Steam Deck and possibly Switch 2 heavily in mind, which would make sense considering in Japan portable gaming is insanely more popular than in most western markets, and this is a Japanese game. I'd also speculate a lot of the budget for the game went towards the hand-drawn anime cutscenes, soundtrack production, marketing, and other non-technical stuff in general. Pushing the PC as a platform to its absolute limit is not an easy or inexpensive thing to do when making a game -- and even in 2024 only a handful of titles truly take full advantage of a highest-spec PC build (which at the moment would be something like a 7800x3d + 4090).

Not every game can be Alan Wake 2 or Cyberpunk with path tracing.

Ninja edit: Also, if you haven't installed MetaphorFix by Lyall, I'd suggest doing so immediately.

I don' t understand why people troll games. I just don't get it. Anti gamers I guess.

I agree. The textures are awful for a 2024 game. Sadly it seems that this is a console port so we also get the bad textures on PC. The game is using the same engine as Persona 5 so its basically an engine that was used for PS3 games, this is why the anti aliasing is terrible and the game runs pretty bad when it has visuals from the PS3/PS4 generation.

The game is a lot of fun and very well made but its a technical mess. Atlus has since moved on to Unreal Engine for Shin Megami Tensei V and Persona 3 Reload and those games look a lot better than Metaphor, but sadly this game started development like 8 years ago and clearly went through development hell that it ended up borrowing a lot of mechanics from the Persona games.

Atlus will either need to put out a few patches to fix these issues and add a 4K Texture Pack Free DLC or Modders will need to do it for them, modders have already made a few quality of life fixes for the game already.

If you install that mod, does it give you settings or forcefully change everything for you? Like, if I want to remove dash blur but I don't want it to remove black outlines.

Because rabid Atlas dudes are okay with using the same engine, making the same game over and over and then criticize anyone who points out the obvious. Formula works and will sell enough to make money. That's all that matters.

Graphics aren't the end-all be-all to me, but I think I agree. Their previous games have looked better, and P3Reload has an incredibly impressive artstyle. Not sure why this game looks like a launch title for the switch.

Please. It's Persona 5 set in Medieval Fantasy rather than school. Formula is identical. Characters almost look identical with similar personalities. Visuals haven't changed other than to mimick a Medieval theme. It's literally the same game with a new story. There is no innovation within Atlas. It's been the same game since Persona 3.

At least persona 4 had the cool edgy loser incel adachi. I think with all the other issues I'm having I might be outright done with atlus lol
