Steam Deck/linux demo carry over fix

copied and pasted from the reddit comment I left over at the steamdeck sub reddit so forgive any bad formatting.

I fired up the game on my bazzite system after having played nearly 8 hours of the prologue last weekend to find that my save data was not there like they said it would be.

I saw others in the steam discussion official bug report discussion also reporting this.
I did not want to re-do another 7 some odd hours for this so I tried a hail marry and copied the saves over manually. I did not expect this to work. it does.

pop over to desktop mode and open up dolphin

navigate over to

/home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compdata/3130330/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Roaming/SEGA/METAPHOR/STEAM/"user-id".

I think the user ID at the end of this path will be unique to your steam user id so Im not gonna type mine out but it'll be a long 20 something character number, its not really important honestly. whats important is the .sav files located in this folder.

if you dont have hidden folders on (under linux, any file or folder starting with a period is set as hidden by default), you'll need to enable that under dolphin (or just copy and paste the shortcuts below these instructions for direct access). to enable hidden files/folders, open dolphin and click the hamburger menu button in the top right, then check the box to show hidden files or if you have a keyboard connect just use ctl+H

in the user-id folder copy all the files that end in .sav
(probably exclude the system_demo.sav file though. I suspect this is the auto-save file. you can probably move this one over but I didnt so your mileage may vary)

then you'll back track a bit to /home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compdata and go into the folder 2679460 and follow the same path, it should look like

/home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compdata/2679460/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Roaming/SEGA/METAPHOR/STEAM/"user-id"

paste the .sav files into that user-id folder

This last part is important and maybe you can guess what it is. You need to re-name the save files and remove the "_demo" from the file names. so "save_demo0001.sav" should just read "save0001.sav"


then just load up the game and pickup where you left off.

uh, disclaimer, I have no idea if this will cause any issues with the game, the content, any dlc, etc.. use your demo saves at your own discretion.


Im too lazy to write up a script to do this so I'll just give a couple of lazy copy/paste commands you can dump in to the terminal that'll just open dolphin directly to the user ID folder for each.
