Is MA dmg scaling broken...? Does it scale negatively?
So... I'm using Hama on undead enemies rn and noticed something weird.

MC -> MA = 33, Hama dmg = 223
Hulkenberg -> MA = 13, Hama dmg 203

My MC feels completely useless, wtf. I remember him doing already over 300dmg yesterday, but now somehow he's becoming weaker. Changing Archetype from Mage to Seeker makes this worse (I invested 2/3 of my skill points into Ma...) he makes less dmg than Strohl when he's using magic with his pathetic 8 Ma

What's happening here? xD I don't understand. I played many Atlus games, but never encountered something like this.

Hmm. that's weird? Maybe Light magic like Hama is bugged or used by another stat (which doesn't make sense of course)

Are you doing more damage with other magic skills beside Hama?

Can you check their weapon? Probably they have weapon with higher atk

Yeah I just tried it with Blizz and it was the same, MC made only barely more dmg than those who weren't investing points in Ma.

But they are doing magic damage, equipped weapon shouldn't affect this, unless it has some negative effects like halved light damage or something lol.

This is a good point.

MC weapon = 89
Strohl = 111
Hulkenberg = 129

I thought weapon damage only affects physical skills and auto hit. So this also influences magic damage?

Weapon definitely affects healing magic, so may affect offensive magic as well (haven't tested it).

Huh? Is that so? That's so weird

PSA: This is why it is important to keep your weapons up to date, even if you're a magic build.

Yeah, honestly, that is really strange, but thanks for explaining it.
As soon as I finish the boss fight, I will try buying a new weapon and see if that helps.

I did the opposite because my bone staff gives +2 extra magic and I thought this was a good bonus. My RPG knowledge so far taught me that the MA stat should be more important than weapon dmg when playing a magic user.

Bonuses like that should still be kept in mind when selecting gear, but in this game, weapon stats scale ALL damage, so such considerations should be between weapons with similar stats.

Honestly, the sheer stat difference between your character and Hulkenberg is probably the reason why the difference wasn't worse.

Well it seems like the problem was defined.(base weapon damage)

Diablo 3 was the first game I played which tied all damage to weapon damage.

Melee, ranged and magic were clearly different categories. Sometimes Melee and ranged were categorized as physical but classes/skills were prevent the character from using the other weapon types. Magic was always a bit special; spell damage, healing power, magic abilities(table top mostly), max mana, mana regen, enhanced skills, etc

Fair mistake to make, Atlus has never been particularly clear or consistent with this even within their own games. Hell, back in Persona 3 weapons only affected normal attacks, not even physical skills.

It was the same way in shin megami tensei 4. The attack stat only effects your normal attack and it was Dexterity that actually effected your physical skills.
