Rooting for Louis till the (sad) end
I think it says something when the most likable character is the villain.
I mean, he's smart, strong, calm, collected, he has a vision, he's always one step ahead.
He's cool, he treats the characters with respect and dignity, he's loyal to his beliefs.
While all the characters are pretty... dull.
Knight lady with a last name for a first name only wants to eat,
mouseman is utterly forgiving and understanding to a child murderer,
those two interchangeable blonde girls (how many times did you pick the wrong one
when switching a party member etc. ?) are childish at best,
and the cat guy - I couldn't figure out if he's actually secretly smart but just
has a inferiority issue, or really is thick.

And in the end, when the characters for the first time bring up some good points
to Louis, he just dismisses them with "Now is past the time for words" or whatever.
So sad, I was hoping he'd win or come around, but no.

But game is fun, I mean, I did spend ~80 hours on it, so.
(and whoever brought up that ridiculous scene where the brothers chase off... something...
in the deck of the ship while battling that kraken. So true).

Well, yeah he has a strong personality, but thats because hes a psychopath. He has no moral compass, no compassion or anything like that, because he doesnt need them. On the first glance he seems like a "fair" person, but in reality hes not. Because he decides that in his world only the strong fighters have a right to exist or to have wishes and everyone else is disposable garbage. Not everbody is born with the potential to be a fighter and most born fighters make terrible leaders in times of peace. His personality is all about "the end justifies the means, as long it was created with might".
The two things that make him look strong are:
1. his complete lack of doubts about himself
2. his zero remorse when it comes to killing people
Normaly people struggle before killing someone. Normaly people think about consequenes before they act. He doesnt. He goes like" if it doesnt work out the way i want, i simply kill people until it does"
I now that confidence is psychological very attractiv, but if you look into the reasons for his actions, there is nothing likeable there.

Still a great written antagonist , so.
I didn't see Louis as being ruled by trauma so much as being single minded and amoral. He literally can't see any other point of view as valid, but he respects anyone that has the strength to match up to him. He's not even arrogant for the most part, he's confident because he just is that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ strong and knows he can style out pretty much anything.

He only breaks down when he's genuinely under threat because he has no context for it and has no way of dealing with the fact that he's not going to win- he still thinks he's right, and the idea that he's going to fail despite his strength is what's inconceivable and traumatising, not his past.
