The two things that make him look strong are:
1. his complete lack of doubts about himself
2. his zero remorse when it comes to killing people
Normaly people struggle before killing someone. Normaly people think about consequenes before they act. He doesnt. He goes like" if it doesnt work out the way i want, i simply kill people until it does"
I now that confidence is psychological very attractiv, but if you look into the reasons for his actions, there is nothing likeable there.
Still a great written antagonist , so.
He only breaks down when he's genuinely under threat because he has no context for it and has no way of dealing with the fact that he's not going to win- he still thinks he's right, and the idea that he's going to fail despite his strength is what's inconceivable and traumatising, not his past.
