Protagonist build ideas?
I feel like my protagonist does little damage. Right now I have him on magic seeker and he's not putting up the numbers I'd like. I want to do mostly physical damage with some magic to support so any advice would be great.

Ps. Does perfect punch do more damage the less health I have or more?

you probably need to master a few more classes to bring up your strength

I've mostly been sticking with the mage archtype. Damage is high and the mp recovery for the party when attacking mobs is invaluable

You're playing on the wrong archetype. Seekers line are mainly magic, you should be using the warrior or brawler line for physical damage. Perfect punch does more damage when you have more health.

Given I am at the part in the game where I only have Strohl, Hulkenberg, and Heismay in my party I just made Will the Mage/Magic User and dumped all his points in Magic.

I switch out his skills depending on what weaknesses are coming up.

Seems to be working well so far.

I also make sure to grind a dungeon until all the monsters are blue, so I might also be over leveling. I'm playing on Hard Mode so I figured better safe than sorry.

the problem is that it sound like you are really early, and many builds payoff in laid game and to give tips would probably consist of some spoilers.

, i have made my Protag a mage build focused on wind magic thanks to a really good endgame wind spell from the elite seeker archetype and a sword that does even more power-up wind spells, he gets quite good damage numbers.

Going physical on the other hand is not bad either as it could also really payoff late game and is ease to use early (as long as the enemy is not resistent to your damage type xD )
honestly, as long as you dont try to be good in absolutly everything and focus on one damage stat, there is not much you could do wrong.
i am just glad that this game has alot of skills later that pierce, makes it already better then some other games from atlus.

I used the protagonist as a mage and never regretted it, you don't get any party members who actually have the stats to be decent with magic until mid-game, so at least for a first playthrough the protagonist fills that niche very nicely. The final class in the Seeker line is very good, whereas the first two are not so great, and it's probably better to focus on the Mage line earlier in the game, coming back to Seeker late game to fulfill requirements and get that final Seeker class, or to avoid powering up Goborns in a couple of early-game places.

The ultimate class you unlock in the endgame for him also has both strong magic and strong physical skills, like the Seeker line it is a versatile type.

Though the description does not say this, Skull Cracker hits a lot harder then Perfect Punch. So you may want to get a couple more levels on your Brawler archetype and inherit that instead.

In order for Seeker's attacks to hit hard, its probably worth it to buy the Golden Epee ASAP. That'll secure your Seeker a nice lead in attack values for a while.

Otherwise for single target the Seeker's Synthesis skills are nice: Horse-Drawn Carnage and Rider of the Blade (depending which is preferable: Strike or Light damage).

Protag isn't even my big hitter. He is there to give more turns with Prince to buff/debuff then have Eupha cast Hyper into 1 shot bosses. It's hilariously broken but if you don't break SMT games they send to break you back. :mtp_eupha:

I liked to use the commander line and occasionally mage/healer archetypes for him as I dumped most of my levels into investing into magic due to the first 3 party members not specializing in magic. Megido from the general archetype is actually pretty good with how cheap it is to cast and being able to hit all enemies.

Well his ultimate class as an FYI is 100% Strength Oriented for maximum oomph. However he can do fine as a mage too

Since Stohl is the strength character, I decided to go Magic with him.
Personally I think the MC fits more of a Magician or Support role, than a front line character.
But really he can be anything.

Just a heads up for anyone who doesn't know this, MAG does not influence healing spells at all, it's purely an offensive stat
